ITS A GREAT TIME TO BUY A NORMAL BIKE! 2 big reasons to get off the fence and onto your local trails: 1). The Covid “bike drought” is over and manufacturers way over-produced bikes, so there is the end of a glut of bikes. Plus: tons of people / families bought bikes, thinking they’d get into it. Just like exercise equipment: lots of nearly unused bikes are now being dumped on FB marketplace for cheap. Still more bikes are being blown out on discount because people only want e-bikes now, sadly. 2). 32” Bike wheels used to be 26”, then they grew to 27.5”. Then 29” became the must-have rage. 32” is supposedly the new hotness. But it’s going to require: new geometry, modified forks, just about everything. And it weighs a little more. All for: top dollar. Worth it? Not in my book. And ironically, I ride an XL. But it is reasonable to expect many of the 29 owners to dump their current, excellent, and capable 29” bikes soon. |

Edit There was 4 of us and we self shuttled Ridge line at DuPont The only Shimano pattern chain ring they had was that new XT version. So I ended up with that one. I’ve never ran an oval before. |

The oval chainring fad cycles around every 20-30 years, still a solution looking for a problem. Ascent - amazing scenery. I only ever had a road bike when I lived in TN/GA, I think I really missed out. |

Got this thing out yesterday, and it went pretty good. This is my first build and I didn't have any problems with a noisy BB, mushy brakes, or any bad shifting. Gonna take some getting-used-to having a dropper, but it's pretty sweet. The only help I had was with installing the headset, trimming the steer-tube, and fine-tuning the derailleur. Heat index was around 113-degrees so I didn't ride but for about two hours. Can't wait to head into the hills with it in a few weeks.

made a horrible noob mistake at the race on sat. used a new set of bibs, from a brand I've used before (primal) but not these bibs in particular. the padding seemed a little thin but I didn't think too much about it. about mile 25 in it became apparent these things are no goddamn good for long bumpy gravel rides. the seat was like  ouch. I was absolutely wrecked. I basically had to stand when pedaling the rest of the race. only luck was I was already headed down hill but it just destroyed me.. still hurts today. awesome event though, will go back next year. |

I had a 50% tariff on a pair of sandals from France for my wife and bike parts from Germany were 25%.  ETA - the weight on that aluminum frame is almost on par with my allez sprint, also aluminum. People say aluminum isn't as forgiving on a road frame as carbon, but it's all I've ever used so I can't make that comparison. |

Almost feel stupid posting this after reading about AgeOne's race, but... Finished my last "endurance prep" ride with a quick 18 miles in 1:20 last weekend before the upcoming Denver Century Ride this Saturday. I'm only doing the 25 mile course though. I'm definitely more of a recreational rider.

The climbing was all the first half, which is great cause nothing like a climb back to the finish line. They posted pics from the event this morning. Attached File |

As for tires I get about 4-5k on the front and 2k on the back. I don't rotate them...just a pain in the butt with road tires. I mean if I need to do some work on them then sure...but most times I just do a 3X1 ratio on tires....3 rear to one front then start all over again. I normally run Pirelli P Zero and P Zero 4S in 30/32c. My race wheel are P Zero RS in 30's and they have about 1k on them (very soft tires but I have about 300 miles more I can get from them) |

2 weeks ago I dug my old racing bike out of the basement for the 1st time in 18yrs. 1987 Miyata. 54cm frame. It has its 3rd set of rims, 3rd saddle, 2nd crank. Totally 80's. Guys I used to go on training rides with all had neon colors on their bikes also. Wild jerseys (I had zebra striped ones) made us look like a 80's hair band out on a bike ride. Whens the last time anyone seen toe clips?  |
