My computer began acting like it had a virus mid last week. Everytime i would try to do anything on it I would get error messages(all kinds). Couldn't run ad-aware, spybot or Norton antivirus. Computer place said they thought it was a "hijacker" cleaned up some files, etc and 3 days later I get it back. Seemed ok at first but then when the Norton runs shortly after I got it home, it says is disabled and then same shit. I tried to run the ad-aware and spybot yesterday and did get them to run. Ad-aware picked up 3 bad files which I deleted and it seemed to work a little better last night but still can't get on the 'net or run Norton. When I got it back from the shop and it screwed up again it had a CD in that had "trash" written on it. Interestingly, removing that seemed to be what allowed me to get into ad-aware and spybot. Back in the shop today but does anyone have any advice? Anyway to keep this from happening again? |

What OS are you running? If it's XP use a restore point to return your registry pre-infection. What anti-ad programs are you running? You need a couple at least. Try Ad-aware and SpyBot Search and Destroy. What browser are you running? If you're still using Internet Explorer there is no hope, it's only a matter of time before you're owned again. Try using Mozilla (whole package) or Firefox (browser), or Opera. |
Running Windows ME. Was told that there was nothing out there that would stop this and that the next Norton edition would be able to handle it. Arrggh. Haven't been here in days...withdrawal was setting in.... |
| If you are using XP, have you downloaded Service pack II from the microsoft website? I had a virus that nothing could eliminate. Virus software, Adaware, Spybot and Spyware Doctor. I downloaded Ser.Pk II and it got rid of it. Hope you have high speed connection , though. It is a huge program to download. It took me 40 min. to download, configure and restart my computer w/ HiSpd service. I understand that it takes a few hours to do with a phone line. Good luck! |

First Windows ME sucks but you knew that right? I thought that ME had restore points too. I'll do work on Solaris, Linux, Windows 3.1, Win 95, Win 98, Win 2000, XP Home, XP Professional, Mac OS 9 and 10 but not on Windows ME. A guy's got to have some sort of standards.
