Supreme Court case in the late 30's concerning the use of a short barreled shotgun.
I can't remember the case name for the life of me. Tried Google, not turning up much.

Read Unintended Consequences and Enemies Foriegn and Domestic by John Ross and Matthew Brakken (SP) respectively.
Basically there was no "militia use" of a sawed off shotgun. I think the case name was Miller, as in US vs Miller
