how do i back up the drivers for the video and sound cards if i do not have the installation disk?i am reinstalling w98 on a old computer for the kids.

You can't directly back them up.  Try to get out to the manufacturer's websites and download the drivers from them.  Put them on a floppy disk or on some sort of removable storage.   Reinstall and use the drivers you downloaded.
