Are there any Mercedes technicians on ARF? My C300 just threw out code P0016. Google says that is the camshaft bank 1, Sensor A. How fucked I am I and how much will this cost via a dealer?

I don't want any smart ass answers for example:

You can do it yourself kcolg30 just hand your purse over or some stupid silly shit like that. You know damn well I'm not qualified to do something of this nature and neither are most of you.

Google says it’s a camshaft correlation issue code.

Could be a sensor, could be a cam actuator control system issue ( clogged  screen or sticking valve) or it could be that Mercedes didn’t put a key way between the cam gears and camshafts and press fit them and they like to slip and fail and rehire cams and actuators to be replaced to the tune of several grand.

Good luck. May the odds be in your favor.

How safe is it to drive in this condition or can it wait a week or two since the dealer is backed up?

Most likely cam timing chain wear, slightly going out of controlled cam timing specs.

I'm guessing at least $1G to diag & repair - does MB do anything for less than that?
As for delaying the inevitable visit, just drop it off & drive your backup vehicle.

The sensors themselves are easy enough to replace( generally, although Germans…) but it certainly could be something else

How poorly is it running?  How many miles?  How well was it maintained?

Same MB that had O2 sensor issues?   Time to cut your losses.

It runs fine. No shaking or any weird noises. I think it's somewhere in the 60,000 mile mark and I do yearly service.

Google says timing is out of spec.
Could be a sensor, could be the magnetic ring the sensor uses to time the engine or it could be issues with the timing chain/or timing chain tensioners themselves.
