| I am currently working on "The First World War: A Complete History", by Martin Gilbert. Excellent so far. I just finished "Gunpowder" by Jack Kelly. What's everybody else working on? |
|
Just finished: "Hitler's Shadow War, Nazi Germany and the Holocaust" "Hunting the Jackel, 50 years working for the CIA and Special Forces" In progress: "Harvest of Despair, Nazi Civil Adminstration of the Ukraine, 1941-44" On deck: "Deviant" The story of Ed Gein and the Plainfield Wisconsin murders, prototype for "Norman Bates", etc. Nothing like a little "light" reading! |
|
Just finished "Quicksilver: The First Book of the Baroque Cycle" and "To Sail Beyond the Stars," Heinlein's last novel. He had some serious sexual issues. Currently in the middle of: The Confusion: The Second Book of the Baroque Cycle. The 48 Laws of Power. The Pilgrim's Path. Brownells Catalog #56 (patiently waiting on #57) And a couple of other tidbits. Remeber the Alamo, and God Bless Texas... |
I beg to differ, he had no sexual issues at all, he was quite ahead of his time with his viewpoint on sexuality. He was lucky to find a woman (second time around) that shared his viewpoints. |
|
Righteous Victims (Benny Morris) - an awesome academically documented book on the history of the state of Israel vs the Palestinian problem The Reinneman Exchange (Robert Ludlum) - everyone needs a WWII spy thriller at least once in a while And then a bunch of professional stuff that never ceases to pile up. |
If you have any interest/knowledge in mental health read the sequal "House of Misery" by the same author. The most recent book I read was "Warrior Soul: The Memoir of a Navy Seal" by Chuck Pfarrer On page 7 he states that his equipment includes "a .40 caliber Glock model 17 pistol" a "Heckler & Koch MP-5 machine pistol" and "sixteen magazines for our MP-5's" which he described as "480 rounds of .40-caliber Teflon-coated hollowpoint ammunition". |
More thrusts per squeeze! |
I bought that book, read that passage and returned it to the book store for a refund the same day. What a crock of bull. |
|
Recent reads: Balkan Ghosts: A Journey Through History, by Robert D. Kaplan Generation Kill, by Evan Wright Ranger School: No Excuse Leadership, by Brace E. Barber Techniques in Countersurveillance, Paladin Press Warrior: The Legend of Colonel Richard Meinertzhagen, by Peter Capstick I've put together a chunky stack of books for an upcoming trip: The Art of War, by Sun Tzu (again) The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire (abridged), by Edward Gibbon The Gulag Archipelago, by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn Hell in a Very Small Place, by Bernard Fall Small Wars: Their Principles and Practice, by Colonel C. E. Callwell OBE The Clash of Civilizations and the Remaking of World Order, by Samuel P. Huntington |
I just finished a book called "Everything you know is wrong" which had a long article on the OK bombing... and how there were more people involved than just McVeigh and Nichols. Fascinating. I am reading David Tubb's "Highpower Rifle" right now and plan on reading that, naturally interleaved by whatever magazines I pick up and subscribe to. I am going to read "Quicksilver" by Stephenson next. I have been meaning to start it since it came out but never got around to it. He's already got "The Confusion" out and is working on the third book of the cycle. I loved Cryptonomicon so really look forward to this new one. I have a ton of books in the queue right now. Just need time. |

If you liked Cryptonomicon, you should love Qucksilver... The Baroque Cycle has been most entertaining so far. |
