Supposed to go white water rafting this Saturday near Boone, NC, with my 11 year old son. It's a 6 hour drive.

Bonnie and Charley are on the way.

Red dot indicates location of Nolichucky river.

Think about what those storms are going to do to the River...

I'd stay away.  Esp. with your son.

You would be careless to put your sons and your life at risk like that. Plus, at best it will rain all day, and you will have a shitty time. Reschedule it.

At best you can count on a weekend of nonstop rain, while you aren't going to melt, you can probably find something else that would be more enjoyable to do with your son.

You have to remember, a hurricane is the largest storm possible on the planet.  There are two headed your way.

It may be your only chance to raft a Class 12 river.

Bonnie did not crap out - she was a TS - once on land they lose thier structure.  However, lots and lots of rain will occur thus any river you "shoot" will be very swollen.  With Charlie comming the Water lever will be even higher.

Seriously, Rafting now is only for experianced adults, don't risk your childs life.    If shit were to happen, you may not be able to help your son, becasue you'd be fighting to save your own life.....

I am a very good swimmer, I've been White water Rafting  several times (with Lifejacket and Helmet) Once I went in the drink in heavy rapids - It was not easy to keep from getting my ASS kicked by the rocks and water (W/O lifejacket and helmet I would have been toast) Trust me, not a good time to take you child....go next week.
