So I heard a rumor that the slot machines at the airport are set up to have a higher percentage of "wins" than the slots at the casinos. The logic being that if you win on the way in to Vegas you are more likely to take chances and spend more money. If you win on the way out you are more likely to remeber the positive before you leave and come back to Vegas. Any one know if this is some damn good pysops or a legit thing? |

I don't recall the odds being posted at the airport, and if everyone won there, no one would ever leave the damn gates. But I had the best fucking Wendy's burger and fries of my life there a few weeks ago. If they could make every order like that, Burger King would be out of business in a year. Kharn |

If you did have slightly better odds at the slots in the terminal, it still wouldnt pay to sit there for an extended time and play them. You would lose all your profits to all the stupid expensive food and drinks. |
| All I know is when we were flying back from our honeymoon, the ex and I had a vegas layover. 2 hours in the airport. Anyway, she put 4 quarters in an machine 5 minutes before our flight. It hit for a stupid amount of quarters. 600 if I remember correctly. We cashed out, grabbed buckets and ran to security, (PRE TSA) they just looked at us funny and we ran to the plane. So we left on a good note. That was 30 years ago. |

IDK but my Father-in-Law once one $1200 in half-Dollars at the McCarran International Airport AS WE WERE BOARDING our flight. I pissed my Mother-in-Law off. We all had to carry buckets of half-Dollars onboard with us, in addition to our carry-ons. My Father-in-Law was laughing his ass off He told me and my Wife we could keep whatever we could carry. I miss Bill |
| Slightly tangental. Long ago I worked with a former slot machine tech for one of the local casinos. She said to find a slot machine near the door that would paying out in money not credits. Reasoning was casinos set up slot machine(s) near the door loose to pay out more so folks could hear the money dropping into the tray. Sound makes people want to spend money on slots. |
| I have a 5 reel IGT slot machine from a casino and have put it around $11k on it already(taking the money out of it and putting it back over and over again). I kept track of the winnings and so far have only won back $5k. The damn things are completely rigged for you to lose, it only pays out after a certain amount of money is put into it. |
| Used to fly through LAS a lot. Never played the machines until I got a flight delayed. Put a $100 in the nearest machine to the gate where I was waiting. Hit $2500 and walked away. Didn't do much for killing the waiting time but I didn't argue. Bunch of people ran for the machine when I walked away. |

We lived in vegas for 9 years. This is a no shit true story. We had to leave vegas to go on vacation and my wife would always play the slot machines. I watched her win 900 bucks on 50, 650 on 35 bucks, 725 another time on 20 bucks and 500 on 6 bucks. I'd say go for it. I have a better chance of my finding my money back after lighting it on fire than I ever did gambling in vegas. My luck is so bad, I put a 100 dollar bill in one machine at the Wynn, the machine broke and I never even got to play, nor did I get my money back. If you want to lose money in vegas, let me go with you! |

I worked in NV casinos for about 35 years. One thing I can tell you, is that the house always wins. Nevada gaming law requires that a certain range of percentages of money input needs to be returned...but that is averaged out over over thousands of plays per machine. Bottom line is, and always has been, that THE HOUSE ALWAYS WINS. Spend your money on something useful...don't piss it away on a slot machine. |

An old boomer gambler once told me that he won way more back in the 80s and 90s. |

Popular machines in good locations can have that kind of handle in one day. Keep playing it. By the time you reach $10 million in, you should have won back around $8,750,000. Between now and then it will bounce around, you may even be a winner at some point. "It only pays out after a certain amount of money is put into it." Not true. Imagine flippin a really fat coin, that lands on its edge 10% of the time. If it is heads, or on its edge, you lose. You flip it 10 times, you are probably not going to end up 5 heads ,one edge, 4 tails. You flip it 1 million times you will probably end up really close to 500,000 heads, 100,000 edge, 400,000 tails. |

Generally the Strip machines are going to be "tighter" (pay out less) than downtown (Fremont). Most games have a number of "payback settings" (hold percentage) the operator can select from. The operator sets his "hold" based on what he perceives as his competion and his target audience. No one is going to the airport to play slot machines. They play them because they are there and bored for the most part. No need to make them "loose" in hopes of return customers. The Strip is somewhat similar thought to a lesser extent. If you play in a location that is more geared towards "locals" the games will generally be "looser" as they are looking for repeat customers, "regulars". |

My mother went to vagas years ago, I gave her 5 bucks in quarters with the rule of put in one quarter and pull the handle, cash out any win. Give me back what was won, I got 3.75 back. She was waiting in the airport for her flight. She thought I did it for my son I can do it for myself. Some where around 3 bucks she won $250, in quarters, 3 mins before her flight started boarding. She did not have time to cash it in so they gave her a cloth bag and had to carry it on the plane. I tried for years to say she actually used my 5 bucks in the air port, and hers at the casino. |

Quoted: Last time I was in with the slot machines they were disgusting fishbowls for smokers. I was one of them at the time, and even I was turned off by the amount of smoke and smell. I went to the Indian casino in Milwaukee for a concert. Had to walk through the gaming room to get to the concert hall. The smoke was horrible! Better in the hall but when they turned on the lights, there was a "fog" in the air. Went home stinking like burnt garbage. Will never go back. |

Quoted: No one is wasting time playing in airport upon arrival. The one time I went to Las Vegas, I didn't see anyone playing the slot machines at the airport, coming or going. It was almost as if they were just part of the decor to say "Hey, see the slot machines? You're in Las Vegas now." |

Nobody plays, or observes players, at the airport enough to really make an accurate assessment of payout percentages compared to any other place in the state. Even people who work in the terminal and may see a lot of activity don't spend that same amount of time at, say, a Strip casino, to be able to compare what the frequency and size of winning payouts are. I am through Terminal 1 and 3 once a month or so, and in the last 5 years I've personally been standing there when there have been a half dozen 6-figure payouts at various different machines. Is that a lot or a little? Buffalo! Article from 6 months ago: Las Vegas airport slot operator surpasses $1 billion in all-time revenue |
| The Ex and our daughter play them every time, never gonna get rich off them but I think the average for both them is 3-400 profit.. I will say, been going there since the early 80's, I think most everything down there has been tightened a lot...used to be losing wasn't so bad because of how cheap great foods, not to mention all the shows and the rooms were..Nowadays, they still comp everything but its like they have to bend over backwards to do it.. |

Quoted: Gambling with the intention of profiting from it is a sucker’s game. When I was little and we finally got a computer we only had solitaire and minesweeper games. I have a photographic memory. After playing solitaire so much I can arrange 4 decks of cards in my head and take cards out of play as they are dealt. I don’t gamble when I play poker.

Quoted: Nobody plays slots when they’re arriving at the airport. They play as they wait for their departure. Pfffft- I ducked into the smoking cell after I offloaded for SHOT in 2019. I dropped $20 in a machine and on the second spin netted $300. Cashed out and hopped my UBER. |

Quoted: Casinos are dumb, you’re mathematically certain to always lose money. There’s countless other ways to spend money and be entertained. I’m not sure how they stay in business. Yes, if you consider it an entertainment expense, it is one in which there is a chance you may leave with more than you arrived with. You "always lose money" when you spend it on entertainment, too. |

After one of our (rare, thankfully) losing trips to Vegas we were sitting in the departure lounge and I had a single $20 bill left in my wallet. Wife said screw it, you might as well burn it in a slot machine. Didn't have time to cash in, we boarded the flight with four or five buckets of quarters. One of the flight crew gave me a cheap airline tote bag in case we hit turbulence and started a riot. Don't remember the amount, but it covered all our losses and most of the hotel bill. Sample size of one, absolutely conclusive |
