Who saw it and what did you think. On a scale of 1-10 i give it a 8. |
Do you mean Collateral Damage? Completely different movie. It was on the other night. I didn't bother watching it. It looked like it sucked big time. |
|
I rate it a 6... Only a couple cool shooting scenes..The rest seemed low budget When did Tom Cruise become a badass? From his flawless shooting position, he has either taken up shooting or it was a double because his back is to the camera when he drew and shot...(Alley scene) No spoilers |
Whups. My mistake, thought it was 'Collateral Damage', not the new Cruise flick |
|
I thought it was pretty good, 8.5 or so outta 10. Cruise definitely got some training and took it seriously, because he was a badass. Typical Michael Mann stuff, pretty sweet... He really seems to dig accurate firearms usage, even back in the Miami Vice days (for the most part) his stuff stood out, he seems to be getting better and better about it as he goes... Anyway, I'm sure there was a mistake or two in the handling in the movie, but Cruise totally sold the badass hitman part IMO... It needed more overall action though, I hope he does a heavy action movie soon. How about HEAT 2 with Val Kilmer and a new crew?? |
Mann doesn't vary too much, movie to movie. His style is edgey, emotion driven and often bare bones. Go rent "Thief" with James Caan. An early Michael Mann flick that almost a prototypical Heat. "Manhunter" was also good. I think Cruises's (and Deniro's) grey suits and grizzled beards are suppossed to make the audience view the character as wolf-like. A predator. Stalking and silent one second, explosively violent the next. The grey suits could also be symbolic of the fact that neither of these characters view themselves as "evil". They don't fit into the simple black and white, good guy/bad guy worldview. It's just their chosen profession. A good movie. I was frankly impressed that Jamie Foxx held up his end and the script didn't stoop to easy black vs. white conflicts. I think Foxx has the ability to become as big as Wil Smith, if he avoids the easy paychecks and low-brow scripts like the Wayans brothers churn out. CKMorley |

I also think that Mr. Foxx did a good job in the film. He was able to show more of his "depth" as an actor in this film. As for Mr. Cruise, what can I say? the gun play was VERY COOL, especially the scene in the alley with the two scum buckets! I was REALLy impressed with that scene. Mr. Cruise's gun handling skill were very natural and fluid. I wonder who his instructor was? At any rate, it was a cool flick, better than most out there. Not the greatest movie, but it's worth the several bucks I paid. |

The one thing I took away from this movie: If you don't shoot people more than once - they're not really down. (FWIW - "Collateral - The IDPA stage", based on the alley scene, has been written and will be conducted September 4th at Hartland Sportsman's Club in Delafield, WI. This is also the match where we'll be having our 'Black Rifle' Side match) |

"Hey Homie!" "I liked the movie alot. My wife was even into the good gun fighting stuff ("Nice magazine change"). And even though I didn't like H&K pistols the last time I shot one, I am now thinking about a USP. Michael Mann seems to generally do a good job. My only rreal criticisms of this movie were that there were a few plot points that seemed a little ridiculous and that it sometimes seemed like an unaired episode of "Robbery-Homicide Division." Still a good time at the theater, and the head FBI agent reminded me of (and looked and acted very much like) a real agent I know. We saw it at the Alamo Drafthouse, which, I am increasingly convinced, is about the only way to see a movie. Our waitress told us they are about to do a major, nationwide expansion, and open about 200 more locations around the country, so hopefully the rest of you will get to see what you are missing. . |
8.50 IMHO, when you contrast Max and Vincent, I didn't think the outcome was predictable. Max never made the Hollywood leap to "fearless action star" well written character...very interesting to watch his evolution. Michael Mann could have easily taken it in a different direction. |
For the film, Cruise under went a lot of training and admitted it was the first time he's ever fired a real weapon. (And all this time I thought he was firing live rounds at the end of TAPS) ![]() |

Did anyone catch the M17 that was carried by one of the second to last hit's henchmen? (May have been one of his boss' guys I forget) I swore it looked like a custom job by Kurt, Good movie, I was definitely rooting for Cruise...... Ending was very predicatable, I'd give it a 7, a prequel would be awesome, just focusing on Vincent. |
| Great movie! The acting and dialogue are excellent. And as mentioned the gun handling and effects are mostly realistic. It's a good balance between dialogue and action. I didn't really notice any slow parts because it always felt like the movie was going somewhere. |
