I heard Smart Media is going away, will secure digital work in my digital camera?

No.

That's like getting an 8-track to work in a cassette player.  It's not gonna happen.  They're two different media types.  Wrong shape, wrong protocol electronically, etc.  Sorry!  Keep an eye on Best Buy, Circuit City and Compusa ads in the Sunday paper.  If you don't have a wholesale connection, their retail sales sometimes cut a decent price.

Damn!  No matter how much money I spend, I can't keep pace with technology.

As long as it works, who gives a shit? I have a 4MP Olympus C-4000, it uses Smart Media. I have two 128 meg cards. They work fine. If it's not broke, don't fix it.

SD will work in a MMC(multimedia card) slot though
my camera, PDA and mp3 player all use MMC/SD

I'm not ditching the camera, I just wanted to be able to buy more cards if the need arose.  I guess there's always Ebay.

Still plenty for sale, and there most likely will be for years.

I have the same problem.

Check e-bay and overstock.com

I have 4 128MB, 2 64 MB

I picked up 2 more 128MB and put them unopened, in the box the camera came in for future reference.

You want a SMOKIN deal on SmartMedia cards?  Here's a link.  High speed write card (good for video use) 512MB for 60 bux:

I just paid 104 for a similar card less than a month ago and I thought it was a good deal.

Smart media is not being used in new camera designs but smart media cards will be available for quite awhile but look for the price of smart media to start to go up after some manufactures stop making the cards. The camera will long be obsolete before the supply cards dries up.
