Okay, so my Fuji Film 3800 died on me. Its a piece of shit and they wont fix it... Who has a good digie cam thats not outrageously expensive, takes good pics and is fairly compact so I may take it snowmobiling/camping/hunting with me? 400 bucks is the top spending limit Im assuming... if you have some pics I can look at that you have taken, that would be excellent. |
I second that. http://photobucket.com/albums/v244/BridgerNY/ That's my photobucket page. All of those were taken with my Canon A80, (reduced in size unfortunately, the full size pictures are BEAUTIFUL), not including the first three pictures you see. Well, the first one of the shotgun muzzle flash is a capture from video taken with the A80. Great camera, I LOVE it. The macro mode is also great for taking pictures of guns, as can be seen of mine in the Shotgun forum and AR15 picture thread. |

Don't overlook the Olympus line. I have a C50, my sister has the newer C60 (she copied me, we are both photographers who "swore" we would never go digital). For pocket cameras they are AWESOME. The C60 is probably right at the top of your price range ($425 at Sam's). Just remember, plan to spend about 25-50% of the price of the camera on accessories between batteries, film, media readers, and the like. There are also other Olympus cameras that are a little less expensive. I really like the Canons as well, but would avoid the Nikon series like the plague. The Nikon digital cameras do not get good for several hundred more dollars. Their beginner series is nothing special (and I am a Nikon SLR shooter to the grave, and have been for 15 years). Also, give the Panasonic line a look, shooter |

There are currently 1700 people browsing the board ... you ought to get 1500 different answers, only one of them will be right for you. I would recommend you do the research yourself at www.dpreview.com and use their data base of hundreds of cameras called the "buying guide" right on the main page on the lefthand side menu. You simply click on the items you wish to search for - size, resolution, format, memory type, price ... and a few dozen more possiblies and hit search. Done. Like finding a woman or a piece of music you like 90% of selecting a camera is personal. How big are your hands? Do you wear glasses? How much do you want to tweak with the camera? And a hundred more other questions. Not knowing the answers to any of these hundreds of questions I'll guess at a Canon A60 ... how did I do? |
+1 Just went trough the research/shopping phase. One thing that I heard ad nauseum is buy a Hi cap card right off the bat. a 256 runs about $100+ |
