Considering all the topics on those 8 legged rejects from hell, I thought it appropriate to ask. No matter what I am doing throughout the day, when it comes time to go to bed, my mind always starts wondering off to think about spiders. Actually spiders and sharks, but lately spiders have been the main thought. This has been happening for years now. I know I am scared shitless of them, just a phobia I guess but why every night do i have to think about them. I find myself doing scans of the ceiling as I am drifting off. But I was wondering if this happens to anyone else? When you lay down at night, and are done with the misses Sandman |

No, but that reminds me of a place I once stayed in Florida. There were so many roaches that they would drop off the cieling during the night, sometimes landing directly on my face. The rest of the time they'd just walk across. That was a difficult place to sleep. |
Do you just think about them as you are going to sleep, or do you have dreams about them?...

now I'm going to have nightmares about Al-Fallujah ![]() jerk |

One thing that has helped me deal with spiders MUCH better is the knowledge/realization that spiders (in general) REALLY don't want to be on you at all if they can help it. Apparently they don't like the heat of crwling around on us, and will try to get off us if they can. Since I live in brown recluse central, I've also come to learn/realize that brown recluse bites are usually the result of the recluse hiding in clothes, and then they freak out when you put on the clothes, and bite you to try to prevent being crushed. Now I just shake my covers before I go to bed, and shake my clothes before putting them on - and I don't worry about spiders at all. Btw - the story about swallowing spiders while you sleep is an urban legend. Doesn't happen, so don't worry about it. Don't get me started on sharks. Really not dangerous at all. More people drown in their toilets every year than are killed by sharks. More people are killed by falling coconuts than sharks. You're WAY more likely to be hit by lightning than you are to be attacked by a shark. If you don't surf, don't swim at dusk or dawn, and avoid swimming in really murky water - I can pretty much guarantee that you won't be attacked by a shark, ever. But I hear ya - irrational fears are hard to deal with, no matter how much someone can explain it to you. |
I used to think they would crawl over me and bite me while I slept. This was when I was young of course. I used to sleep with a pillow lying alongside me, taking up half of the bed. I used to sleep facing away from the pillow, towards the door. Anything behind me I was scared of. I used to think spiders would crawl from the other side of the pillow and get me. In the daytime, I would absolutely shit myself if I had to get a ball which went into the garden. I was so scared that a spider would bite me when I looked for the ball. I still shit myself when I have to walk in the garden wearing sandals. Never was afraid of snakes though. |
