I'm applying for an LEO job, and one of the steps in the procedure is something called a "voice stress" test. It sounds kinda like a polygraph...but I have no clue what it is. Anyone out there know what it is and how it's different from an ole' fashioned  polygraph

Also known as a PSE, or psychological stress examination, it purports to detect the presence or absence of a subaudible FM tremor in your voice.  Supposedly, the tremor is suppressed or attenuated when you are attempting to lie.

This shit is even more voodoo than a polygraph.

For a while it was in vogue to use it analyzing politicians voices, other publich figures, actors pitching products in commercials, etc.

The thing is, accusations can be made, and not proven.  And for a technique that cannot be entered as evidence in a court of law, it should at least give pause to using it for hiring and firing.

I don't know how it applies to Law Enforcement, but there is federal law about using a polygraph for hiring.  Should be posted on most work bulletin boards.

I had applied for a DuPage County, IL, Sheriff's Department job back in the mid-90s, and they had us take "Color/Vector Preference Chart" along with the actual test.  It was 80% of the test!  It had you tell them "which circle do you prefer", with lines pointing in and out at 90 degrees to the center of the circles, with 6 of them of different colors.  I blew the job after scoring high-90s on the actual test.

Bastards!  They wouldn't even say what you were supposed to do, or what they were supposed to mean.  "What is your favorite" to base a hiring decision on?!?!

WTF!
