I have a 99% early sp-1, Slab side, with bakolite pistolgrip, no trap door in rear stock, no forward assist, no cuts in bolt for forward assist, 3 prong flashider 4 digit serial number, any ideas on value
thank you. bore like a mirror,First two of serial (66)

We went through this earlier in the AR forum...

It depends. Is it the duckbill flas supressor or the older 3-prong?

Bakelite or plastic pistolgrip?

Does it have a roll pin in the rear of the receiver as a buffer retainer?

There's a lot of variables...

What's the first two digits of the serial? It could have been made anywhere between 1964 and 1968.

the only thing special about these guns are the slab side lower. they simply arent made anymore.

they still hold a special place with collectors(the colt name, slab side lower), but for the average joe wanting an ar when the ban goes away it will be worth the price of a very old ar15.

I think the value will drop a little in the near term, but old ARs like this, in like new or new condition should rebound a little after the sunset drop. My thinking is that newer type models can be made again, but I doubt Colt would ever go back to this model (unless it was some custom shop small run).

You sent money to a guy with only 3 posts on here that nobody has likely ever met?

Markm is a troll.  Ignore him and his silly posts.

jrgunman is a friend of mine and well known to me.  We live in the same town and attend meetings together.  I have known him for five years or so.  He's legit.

True--but you might try slacking off on the inane posts that don't fit the thread.  "Ban them all!" and "I'd hit it!" in serious threads just isn't funny.  Sorry--I assure you I'm not the only one who thinks so.

Dude,  I don't put "I'd hit it" in any threads.  At least not recent enough to even remember.

I'm hardly his mentor.  He's a friend, but he knows MUCH more about firearms than I do.  I just wanted to vouch for him because I know him personally and dispel the notion that he is a troll.

After the ban ( if it really goes away) things will settle down and I believe prices on the SP1 and SPII will re bound. Colt is never again going to roll mark AR15 on their rifles. To some of us older guys who were issued the M16A1 the SP1 is the closest we will get to the original. I have 2 of them now and If I could afford it I would be buying more of these cheap SP1s.

So, made in 1966...

Depends on who wants to buy it

A hardcore collector with deep pockets would probably drop close to 2k on it. Most people wouldn't probably spend more than 1200 these days...also depends on if it comes with the manual, the box, sling, original magazine(s), etc.

How much do you want for it? (hey, a good price, and I'd be interested)
