I think I have spyware on my computer.  I can exit all of my browser windows and cancel all internet software but yet I am still sending/recieving data.  It is choking my computer big time.  I have scanned with norton and found no infections.

Any ideas?

Scan with AdAware or some other spyware detection software .....

The basic version of AdAware is free ... here is the link ...

I just got rid of my Spyware problem, it took three different programs to get rid of it.  I'm not sure how I got it or how long it's been on my computer.

I ended up using Spybot Search and Destroy, followed by Ad-Aware which found a lot of things SpyBot missed, then I followed that with SpySweeper.  Both SpyBot and Ad-Aware are free.  SpySweeper seemed to do the best job but only comes with a trial version that can't be updated unless you buy the program.

Well, porn sites and warez sites are the absolute worst offenders for spyware...and you won't even know you're gettting it...it's in all those annoying pop up ads.  AdAware and Spybot *can* solve the problem, but if it's real bad, ain't nothing short of a reformat gonna get it all.  I had to switch to Netscape on my home computer, it got so bad.

One thing you can try, if you have XP...do a system restore to about a month ago...if you've just encountered the problem, that will roll back the system 'til before you got infected...and it won't nerf your latest documents, so don't worry about that.
