I was over at Uzitalk.com and this thread: www.uzitalk.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=6077 reminded me of a question. Is it legal in CCW states to carry a concealed rifle, or shotgun/SMG for that matter? The NH pistol license states specifically that it permits the user to carry a 'pistol or revolver'. What about your state? |
Most awesome carry rig i've ever seen! |
|
Arkansas "carrying a weapon" law prevents you from carrying a handgun or knive or club openly, or concealed (but a CHP allows a concealed handgun only). AFAIK, there is nothing in the statues that says you cannot carry a longgun or machinegun / machinepistol openly or concealed. |
I was going to post the same info but you said it first. God I love this state! |
It is wonderful isn't it. |
Dang! I am gonna have to move to KY! How's the food? |
Yeah Ark is the same way. I wish they would change it so that you could carry openly with a permit so that I won't get in trouble if my cover garmet slips up while sitting, for example. |
No flame, and permit BS aside (we shouldn't need permits for a constitutional right), a firearm should be carried either openly or concealed. If your shirt happens to 'slip' and reveal your firearm during a heated discussion with another person, even though they may be the aggressor, the police may interpret that as 'brandishing' a firearm ie. a sign of intimidation and an attempt to escalate the situation. The theory here is that someone who approaches a person with an exposed firearm knows what they're getting into. In states that have both the right to carry concealed/exposed, my understanding is that it must be one or the other and you can't be in public and decide you now want to carry your firearm exposed. In NH, you can carry exposed without a permit. If I go hiking and I know that I'm not likely to meet anyone, I carry open for easier access. If I am going on a well-trodden trail, I carry concealed. Keep 'em guessing. While I may not need to carry a SBR/Shotgun concealed, I would like the ability to do so. |
We can also own/carry all Class III devices...yet for some reason we can't buy fireworks that leave the ground and blow up...go figure. |
Not directly on topic, but I just wanted to remind everyone of what Ted Kennedy said several months ago when a CCW for LEO amendment was being debated... he argued that it was a disaster in the making because it would allow police officers to carry "shotguns and sniper rifles" concealed. ![]() --Mike |
Cool! A guy comes up and mugs you, you have a VERY small nuke, take out about 20 feet or so. "Naah, I don't feel like giving you my wallet. Let's go ask God what he thinks." Boom! |
Ack! When did this happen? Do you have a reference? |
I'd take that trade-off any day. ![]() |
I can read just fine, what I was asking about was this: "In Texas there are now laws that make it illegal to carry a rifle or shotgun either openly or concealed." Which, considering I had been planning on putting a rifle in my truck, kinda spoils my plan if it's true. |
Actually in PA you can carry a loaded pistol with a barrel under 12"(I think) , a rifle with a barrel under 16" and a shotgun with a barrel under 18". I guess they figure if you went to all the work to get a Class III weapon you have been checked by the feds and are good to go. I asked a PA firearms lawyer about this and he said the law was on the books but didn't suggest anyone attempt it. My liscense says "liscense to carry firearms." |
Bingo (nearly). In PA a firearm is defined as a pistol or revolver with a barrel less than 15 inches, any rifle with a barrel less than 16", or shotgun with a shorter than 18" barrel, or any of the above with OAL less than 26". From Title 18, Chapeter 61, Section 6102. Your license to carry a firearm allows you to carry any of the above. |
Go ahead and put it in your truck. I have no idea where they are getting their info, there is nothing in the penal code updates, and I've not heard of any pending legislation. I think it's just more internet gas. |

MA is handgun only, but only with a proper "license". Law doesn't say that you can't carry openly with a "license", but you will get hassled and may lose your license for doing so. 1998 law prohibits carrying any longarm "on a public way" unless unloaded and cased (even hunting crossing a roadway, or parked in front of your house). All non-low capacity longarms have to be cased in a vehicle as well and no longarms may be loaded in a vehicle. |
I have never heard of that before. What exactly does the law say? |
I think it's something to the effect that anything less than 30" requires a permit or some such to purchase. |
|
I was under the impression that NFA items are not legal to carry unless otherwise granted from the BATFE or local L.E. depts. Something about 30-50 rounds in under 10 seconds they don't see as defensive. i could be wrong.. wouldn't be the first time. We had a guy who got a sheriff in the county above me to sign off on him being able to carry a MAC 10 with one of those shoulder swivel rigs. J |
