Hey! I was just wondering if there are any trappers floating around here. I am just starting up and was wondering how many of my type there are.

I stopped trapping in 1992, I think it was '92 when coon went from $18 to $4 and grey fox went from $28 to $5. Blanket size beaver was $40 and I held mine for a year thinking they would go up. |

I liked the dirt hole set the best and used cable snares on beaver slides. Hen eggs for bait in the dirt hole with pure fox urine on the backside of the set. What's your favorite set? Possum was $3 back when I trapped and heck yes, I'd skin a possum for $3. Hollow logs almost always got a skunk or possum. There was even a market for house cat hides up untill a few years before I started trapping. Oh yeah, I almost forgot. DAMN SKUNKS! |

I haven't since late 70's, early 80's, before you had to have a license & tags! Coons brought pretty good money back then, what they bring now I wouldn't know. Me and my dad had about 20-30 traps set out a one time, bought a pool table one winter with the proceeds! teamroper2004 |
I like the dirt hole too, caught my first fox in it (so did my little brother) My favorite is probly a 220 bodygrip guarding a 5 gallon bucket. the coon run in and they're dead before they know it. Really sucks when you catch cats that way cuz they sneak passed the trigger and ussually get caught by the hind1/4's and are still alive when you find them.[damn cats] I also run a small unofficial business trap woodchucks in the summer for naighborhood folks. HEHEHE!!! Got myself quite a reputation around here[my town] as a ruthless killer ![]() ![]() I have no compassion for wood chucks [they are the scum of the earth] Heck I am heading down to the local fairgrounds tomorrow to catch a BOOGER[woodchuck] who is digging in the barns. |
