| Do any bank guards still carry firearms where you live? I only ask because none of the banks around here have guards let alone ones carrying. Is this something that ever happened or is it a Hollywood thing? |
|
Locally here in Tulsa they carry. About 3 ago, a guard put his life on the line and shot two bankrobbers. Unfortunately he was killed in the shootout. When they checked the house of the robbers they found Branch Dividian stuff and something that indicated they were robbing the bank in order to buy arms. I found it interesting that this was the day before the anniversary of the Waco assault. Anyway, to get back to the point. Yes, they do still carry arms. At least in Tulsa. |
Hmm then I guess my next question would be why? Dont they tell tellers to be as cooperative as possible and give the robbers whatever they want? Im probably not going to put my life on the line for someone elses money. By the by did you know they have started calling the teller position "bank retailers"? |

Bank guards here in Detroit are generally, how shall we say, created positions or busy-work. The "guards" many times are severely overweight females. And unarmed. Armored car guys on the other hand... I've chatted with a few at my work when they come in to refill the ATMs. This one Brink's guy was ex-military and carried a SIG. And he carried 2 million in a plastic bin on a hand truck. His situational awareness was cranked up to 11 down there in Detroit. You couldn't pay me enough to do that job. |
I heard that modern Detroit is basicallly like Beiruit. |

Where I bank in KC has an armed guard, but he is more of a doorman than anything else. In response to an above question, they aren't armed to fight it out over the money. They are armed in case Mr. Blonde comes in and starts shooting people. Which is a good reason for CCW. |
Guards carry for insurance reasons, most likely... There is probably a discount for visible armed security (As a robber deterrant)... |
Not so much anymore. There are parts, like anyother big city, but it isn't that bad. |

Mostly at the Bank of Americas. They range from the older VN (although he looks prepared enough to have walked the walke before) armed with a semi-auto bloused pant legs dark blue on dark blue, to the youngish guy with a revolver , white shirt, blue pants at the one by the house. The ones at the branches in the markets appear to be unarmed and they (that I've seen) are too old to scare me off even if they were armed. They seem to sometimes be doormen, but then again you can't stand and growl at the little old ladies all day. I happen to think they are wearing "SHOOT ME FIRST" signs on their backs. That said at the complex at Imperial and the 57 Freeway, the other banks with no guards that I have seen, have been hit several times and not the BofA with guard. Frankly I think they are only there to get a look at the getaway car. |

I used to work security for First Chicago, then FCNBD, then Bank One. They shafted all of the long-term employees, and "outsourced" them to an unarmed outfit. I luckily got "downsized" before that, and moved to a job where I wasn't making as much money, but didn't have "SHOOT ME FIRST" tattooed on my forehead. I am SOOOOOO glad I left, though I had really loved my job, and who I worked with and for. Until John McCoy, that is. May the little bastard rot in hell. When you are compromising your people's safety for financial gain, you are an asshole. Anyone wanna know how I REALLY feel?

Usually NO armed guards in the banks around me. (NW Phoenix) EXCEPT for a Bank One inside a Fry's Supermarket. Damn thing got knocked over 2-3 times in a 3 month period. So Sheriff Joe parked a deputy in there for a while and this guy was armed to the teeth. Two handguns and a Taser showing, no telling what else he had stashed in those baggy, bloused BDUs. I walked past him wearing my CCW fannypack and I think he recognized it for what it was 'cause he kinda gave me the evil eye. About 3 weeks ago the place was rolled again. No LEO/security on duty. |
Yeah and they have the 7th Cavalry crossdraw flap holster I used to call it the three day holster as that was how long it took to draw your gun. |
![]() Actually around here its a thumb break holster. But sum of what they hire, it would take them three days to draw any way
