Taking my 4 y/o son to the local cemetery tomorrow to place small flags on the graves of all the vets.
I want him to start to learn that holidays like Memorial day are about more than BBQ's and the beach. God bless the greatest country in the world and those who gave the ultimate sacrifice so we all could live as we do now.

I ALWAYS shed a tear on Memorial Day, the 4th of July and occasionally the Marine Corps Ball. Shivers always run down my spine during the Star Spangled Banner.

I hope this happens to everybody, cuz if it doesn't, it's time for you to stop and remember what being an American is all about.

"It is the soldier, not the reporter,
Who has given us freedom of the press.
It is the soldier, not the poet,
Who has given us freedom of speech.
It is the soldier, not the campus organizer,
Who has given us the freedom to demonstrate.
It is the soldier,
Who salutes the flag,
Who serves beneath the flag,
And whose coffin is draped by the flag,
Who allows the protestor to burn the flag."

By Father Denis Edward O'Brian,USMC

Thank to all those that sacrificed their lives upon the alter of liberty, that we might remain free.

That's OK Ed.. Though we do not approve of these parade, there were those who defended with their lives their right to have those parades.

I am not saying they do not have the right to do it,only noting that  activities that honor men who died in the defense of our nation are not "popular" anymore.

Remember....

MEMORIAL DAY is for those who have given their life for our great country.

VETRANS DAY is for those who have served and still serve our country.

Ed,

Your forgot to add the new ending to the Pledge of Allegiance.

I pledge Allegiance
to the Flag
of the United States of America.
And to the Republic
for which it stands;
One Nation,
Under God,
Indivisible,
With Liberty and Justice for all

Who will fight for it.

I am spending Memorial Day as part of an honor detail at a Veterans' Cemetery.  It is such an honor to be able to do the 21 gun salute for the veterans and to be able to discharge a firearm in city limits..  :)

You need to come to DC to experience Rolling Thunder.

Unless you've been there, you don't know what a Memorial Day Parade is.

I doesn't matter how bad you are, you will see something that will make you swell with Pride to be an American, and you will see something that will bring a lump to your thoat and a tear to your eye.

It is an awesome experience to see and even better to participate in.
