I'm working on how to transport 100,000 lbs. of equipment and 62 to 70 personnel on Air Force assets (probably a C-141) and don't know where to start.  What type of pallets are used?  What are the dimentions and weight limits for the pallets?  What are the HAZMAT transport standards?  What type of DoD and AF forms are needed?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

E-95,
I am not a loadmaster nor will I say that I play one on TV!  My suggestion to you as a former S-4 is to contact your local Air Force Base or reserve or guard unit and ask to for help contacting the Aerial Port Squadron.  This people are the wizards on how "stuff" is supposed to be packed for transportation on military AC.  How it is packed and the requirements will be based on what type of airframe will be used to get you your stuff and your folks to the desired location safely.  APS will also know the requirements of transporting Hazmat.  Hope this helps you some.

Thanks for the info Scorpion34.  We've actually contacted the folks at the 164th AW and they're going to work on getting one of their loadmasters to work with us on the project.  However, we don't have a timeframe on when that will occur.  We do however have the dates when some feds will be here for a review of our plans and procedures and I want to make sure we have everything in place prior to that.

Maybe if you stay at a Holiday Inn Express tonight you could give me a hand in the morning.

Drop me an IM, I'll send you my phone number and we can talk.

I am well versed in C-130 ops, and I have done my share of loadplaning for C-141's and C-5's.

The Navy, we do it all.

Hope you get more than "a" C-141.  A C-141 can only haul about 67,000 pounds of cargo maximum.

I have been to the Air Load Planners Course and the Automated Air Load Planners course. That was over 5 years ago, and not having done it since then, I've lost a lot of the knowledge to help you with this.

However, I can tell you this: there is an awful lot you need to know to plan an air load, and this is not something you will be able to do by yourself. You will need someone who does this for a living to plan it for you.

Danno, yea we knew that we'd have to have two 141's to move all our equipment and personnel.  Sorry I didn't clarify multiple aircraft.

Hoplite, we're not a military unit.  We're composed of mostly firefighters with some docs, engineers, nurses, and a few others specialized individuals.  When the balloon goes up and we get activated, we become temporary federal employees for the mission duration.  In reality we're a pretty lean unit without any more personnel than needed to accomplish our very specialized mission.  I'm working on recruiting a cop that's a loadmaster in the Reserves but that's just in the beginning stages.

Riotgun, I knew that the courses necessary to become a Loadmaster span several weeks and that there is no way that we could create any plans without a lot of expert input.  I just didn't want the guy to walk into a planning meeting without us even having the vocabulary and a basic understanding of their needs.

Holy shit!  I'm finally getting an idea how much of a pain in the ass this is going to be.  I'll start reading through this material tomorrow when I've had a good night's sleep.  I obviously need to increase my Loadmaster recruitment efforts.

Thanks for the info Riotgun!
