I still haven't had the chance to shoot Tannerite but my favorites have to be propane tanks, and during fire season, spray paint cans.

They spin and shoot paint everywhere. I would suggest you shoot from at least 50 yards away.

Shaving cream makes one hell-of-a-beautiful mess at 100 yds.

The range I shoot at doesn't allow flammible targets on their plinking range, but anything else is pretty much OK.  I like to use cheap Aldi pop cans that you shake up and toss into the pit.  they make a good pop and spray of color (depending on the tiype of pop) so you know you got it.

The guy next to me had a shotgun- nothing more beautiful than "Pull!" a crack and then a puprle mist in the air!

Fire extinguishers are fun to shoot at, The CO2 one are really great, if they still have a little bit of a charge left in them.

Bowling pins, steel plates, 2 liter coke bottles filled with colored water is fun too

potatoes- cheap, and they explode big, and the best part is that (where i shoot at least) they bring in dragon flies- so you can pop them as well.  i've heard that crackers are good too

Yeah!  All those shot up propane cans and spray paint cans left out in the shooting spots does wonders for the Public's image of shooters!

Take a half sheet of old plywood and hot glue different color paintballs to it and set it out at 100 yards, it's colorful and challenging.

I was going to say the same thing.  Where I stage to do my off road motorcycling south of Tucson is an impromptu range.  Every week ther is more shit hauled out there that people have shot at.  This last week it was a construction helmet, and a child car seat.  This is on top of road signs, beer kegs, fire extinguishers, drain pans, mattresses, guitars (a blashemy, regardless of how cheap), and too many others to name.

The thing about this site is that there is no back stop, and I am sure that the rounds are sailing around miles past the intended targets.

Sigh.

I have seen the little green camping type propane bottles fly 200 yards when hit--over our heads and into the parking lot, between two cars.  BE CAREFUL!  Fifty yards is NOT nearly enough.

Wow you really like to jump all over people, and bring down a good thread.

Not everyone leaves all there junk at their shooting spots.

Besides allot of us attend clean ups.  I don't think its cool to accuse all shooters of leaving trash out there.

Any supermarket brand Orange soda makes a nice cheap target. Dont forget to shake 'em before you shoot 'em!

yeah but the problem with shooting Iraqi's again(as great of targets as they may be) is that you have to travel to Iraq to shoot them.  and believe me right now is a crappy time to go to Iraq, I know I was there last year Arizona has nothing on Fallujah for heat.

It disgusts me.  I'd like to be able to blame all the trash out in the sticks on the ATV/METH crowd, but unfortunately it's not the case.

How interesting can shooting old computer monitors and speaker boxes get anyway?  I know it's not most of the people here.  It's the white trash idiots who ruin it for everyone.

I like shooting steel targets, enjoy hearing the clang everytime a bullet hits, I also like to shoot old BBQ
grill propane tanks that havent been shot up yet and plastic orange juice jugs.

sometimes I find  heavy steel plates near the railroad tracks that make good pistol targets with my 1911.

I made a custom human silhouette steel target that has a swinging plate in the center of mass painted a bright orange, I like to shoot it with my 1911, I also use to use it for shotgun practice.

Thats a great idea.  I just ordered a bunch of film canisters to use as Tannerite targets.  How loud is a small charge like that?
