I need to charge the AC on my mothers 91 Saturn SL1, ( it has been converted to R134a a few years back) Can anyone tell me which hose is the return line?

The charging kit I have states that the adapter will only fit on a non-pressure line.  Now for the confusing part.  The tap that my adapter fits onto has a "P" on the cap (black cap that I removed to access the charging tap)  Is that actually identifying the pressure side? or is it just there for some unknown reason...

Which side is the pressure side?
There is a smaller diameter hose that connect near the front of the comperssor that has a smaller diameter charging tap.
There is a larger diameter hose connected to the back of the compressor that has a larger tap (this is the one that my adapter fits and also the one with a "P" on the cap.

SOmeone please advise... Thanks in advance

Unless you know what you are doing, don't fuck with it! You could hurt yourself or damage the car!

they are both pressure sides. The bigger tube will be the lower pressure and is where you will add the freon. If you have to add some it has a leak. Usually at the compressor seals.

Everything I heave heard is that you want a guage set for both the high side and low side.  Otherwise it is easy to over-charge which will harm the system (and prevent it from cooling).  If I were doing it myself I'd get the high/low guage set.
