| This is bullshit. I am 15 and decided to wait until I was 15 and a halve to get my permit. (Well my parents said they didnt want to pay for my drivers ed and I dont have the money) And a new law was just passed saying that you have to have your permit for 12 months before you can get your license. My birthday was in march so now I have to go through drivers ed and wait months after my birthday for my license. I fucking hate this |

After you've finished basking in the glory of believing that your adult language impressed us with your obvious maturity. BTW we'ld be more impressed if you could spell and capitalize correctly, too. But those are just trivial details, superficialities in the grand scheme of thing, minor pimples on the gluteus maximus of life. Why don't you check and see when the law actually takes effect ? Could be it doesn't actually take effect until the First of the year, in which case if you already have an existing permit, you might still only have six month requirement. You could be in CA How to apply for a provisional permit if you are under 18 To apply for a provisional permit, you will need the following: * Be at least 15 ½, but under 18 years of age * Visit a DMV office (make an appointment for faster service) * Complete the application form DL 44 (An original DL 44 form must be submitted. Copies obtained by xeroxing, faxing, or other methods will not be accepted.) * Have your parents' or guardians' signatures on the application form DL 44 * Give a thumb print * Have your picture taken * Provide your social security number. It will be verified with the Social Security Administration while you are in the office. * Verify your birth date and legal presence * Provide your true full name * Submit the proper form(s) for driver education and/or driver training classes (See below for details.) * Pay the $24 application fee (This fee entitles you to three exams of any type within the 12-month period and pays for both the instruction permit and the driver license. If all requirements are not met within the 12-month period, the application becomes void and all steps must be completed again.) * Pass a vision exam * Pass a traffic laws and sign test. There are 46 questions on the test. A passing score is at least 39 correct answers. You have three chances to pass the test. If you fail, you must wait 7 days before taking it again. Note: To allow you sufficient time for testing DMV will not be administering written or audio exams after 4:30 p.m. Driver Education and Driver Training Form Requirements If you are 15 ½ to 17 ½ years of age, you will need to provide proof that you: * Completed driver education (Form DL 387 or OL 237) and are taking driver training (DL 392 or OL 392) OR * Completed driver education and driver training (DL 387, DL 388, DL 388A, OL 237, or OL 238). OR * Are enrolled and participating in an approved integrated driver education/driver training program (DL 400). If you are over 17 ½ but under 18 years of age, you may get your permit without the driver education and driver training certificates however, you will not be able to take the driving test until you turn 18. Once you pass your written test, you will be issued a provisional permit. A parent, guardian, spouse or adult 25 years of age or older, who has a valid California driver license, must be with you when you drive. He or she must sit in a position close enough to take control of the vehicle, if necessary. It is illegal for you to drive alone at any time. Before being eligible to take your driving test you must: * Be 16 years old AND * Have held your permit for a minimum of six months AND * Have completed driver education AND * Have completed 6 hours of professional driver training/ AND * Have completed 50 hours of practice with an adult 25 years or older. The adult must have a valid California driver license and certify to the 50 hours of practice. At least 10 of the 50 hours must have been done at night. You will be asked to show that you are properly insured before the driving test begins or the driving test will be postponed. After you pass your driving test you will be issued an interim license valid for 60 days until you receive your new photo license in the mail. Check your address before you leave DMV and tell the DMV representative if you have moved or if your address is incorrect. If you have not received your license after 60 days, call 1-800-777-0133 to check on the status. Have your interim license with you to provide information when requested. If you fail your driving test, you must wait two weeks before you can take the test again. You have three chances to pass. If driver education and driver training were taken in a state other than California, DMV will accept either a To Secondary Schools Other Than California Schools form DL 33 completed by the out-of state school, or a letter on the out-of state school's stationery signed by a school official stating that the courses are equivalent to California's requirements. Instructional permits issued by another state are not acceptable proof. Parents' or guardians' signatures - accepting liability for a minor When parents or guardians sign for a minor to get a driver license, they are stating that they will accept financial responsibility for that minor. Financial responsibility in California requires that drivers and vehicle owners carry the following minimum monetary limits: * $15,000 for injury or death of 1 person per accident * $30,000 for injury or death of 2 or more persons per accident * $5,000 for any property damage per accident Evidence of financial responsibility must be carried at all times in the vehicle. Most Californians maintain financial responsibility through insurance companies, which provide the policy holder with an identification card to be used as evidence of coverage. The card must state the insurance company's name and address, the period of coverage, and policy number. Seems like you don't have much to bitch about. I know a lot of parents that make their kids pay for the insurance before they sign. We have reduced our teen driver involved accidents significantly. |
Only with a parent. 14 to get your "daytime permit" 16 for "all goes" Actually, very few kids wreck. Kids can also have guns. Never had a school shooting and don't have a bunch of kid shootings (or any shootings) There are many cool things that result from a polite, armed society with morals defining law, not the other way around... |
| This is the first time I have ever swore on arfcom. And normaly I use correct english. But now I have to wait extra months to drive. It takes effect on July,1 of this year. Think about it if you were this close and then you had to wait another 4 months you would most likly be pissed off to. |
|
krazed, Don't mind Ma and some of the rest. Geez, you'd think maybe they'd remember what it was like. ![]() Do thank God, though, that you don't live in Kali with the freaks and fortunately most of us don't live in a state where you are not allowed to breathe the air without a gov't mandated privelege card. As for decreasing teen driving accidents why not just eliminate drivers licenses for all teenagers. That'd solve the entire problem of teen accidents, wouldn't it? Or better yet, no driving for anyone. Then no one would die on the road. All except for all the obese who would finally have to get of their ass and walk to work... Hang in there kid. You'll get your chance. |
|
I know what you mean crazed. Back when I was a pup the drinking age in Nebr. was 19. Shortly after I turned 19 the age was raised to 20. Right after I turned 20 it went to 21. So I could legally drink two years before my best friend. And he was only 6 months younger than me. When was this law passed/go into effect? I knew it was coming up but guess I missed it. My daughter got her permit at 15½ in April. I'm guessing she's "grandfathered" in and can still get her permit in Oct. I'm sure it'll be a shock to her if she can't. And hang in there. Life only gets worse from here on out. |
|
I understand how you feel. When I was your age I couldn't wait to start driving. I had to wait anyway because we couldn't afford driver's ed. That was then. Sooner than you think, it won't matter. No sense getting pissed for a long time about things you can't change. I imagine there are a lot of guys on this board that would love to be 15 again. Yeah, you'll have to wait a bit to start driving, but you haven't: Been told you have cancer, (At least I hope not) Been married, Had children, Bought a home, Been to war, Been divorced, Been told your child has a birth defect. (I hope it never happens to you.) I hope you have a great life and that waiting until you're 16 to drive is the worst thing that ever happens to you. |
This should be the least of your worries. Wait till you buy INSURANCE
|
No. I have been a member of this board for over a year and judging by your post count you are the one who found this site in a class and has nothing better to do with your life. So you spend countless hours around this board searching for people to humiliate. I have nothing against this board and its members but I said nothing to provoke this. So, I will give you some time in the dictionary trying to figure out this basic speech. Go and masticate on a phallus. |
These are a real pain, you have to get that signed school from which always takes a week just for a permit. Plus we got world class assholes at DMV. I didnt get a license until I was 18 thanks to parents, and I had to get somone else to drive me up there. |
Try something different than masticate. Masticate usually involves chewing/ actual consumption of food. Not sucking. Seriously though, be glad you only have to wait untill you are 16.5 to get a license. The kids here in MA have to wait untill they are 16 to get just their permit. Another half year to get an actual license and thats assuming they take drivers ed courses. Than another half year of waiting untill they can drive with a non family member. Hoppy 8420 |
Well you could be like my daughter who when she turned 15 was not on the B honor roll at school, so she could not get her permit. She will be 16 next week and is not going to be on the honor roll so guess what thats right, no drivers license So what are you complianing about? |
Your so lucky, you can actually afford to withold a drivers license from your kid. My sister and I both got ours bang on the dot after our 16th birthdays because the Parental Units did not want to transport us anymore. |

No one under 18 should drive anyways. The streets are already filled with bad drivers and new/young drivers are notoriously bad because they're trying to impress their friends and they think they'll live forever. Sorry if this hurts but I've been 15 and I know what its like. You won't know what its like to 32 years old (like me) for another 17 years so my experience says you're living in the most carefree days of your life-enjoy them for what they are. Some friendly advice: Plan your future objectives Study hard work part time if you can Listen to your elders Take care of yourself-"An ounce of prevention is worth more than pound of cure."-BF Go to the prom with someone who you really like-not just a friend. The GI Bill is a great way to earn your way through college Its better to pick a major that is more general like business so you can be more flexible. If you join the military, all that training is written in blood, its not bullshit. Listen to your elders |
Yes, that is why he has to wait 12 months after he has his permit, so he can have a year of supervised road time. He wants unsurpervised road time. No bueno |
| Dam you people are hard on kids driving. I am more worried about great grandma who cant see a dam thing. O and how many of you drive 90mph on the road. Just because some dumb ass kid zipped past you flying you notice him and not the other 10 or 20 you just blasted buy. How old where you when you started driving How fast where you going. (I am not saying everybody speeds it is just something to think about) Age does not make you a good driver common sence and paying atention to what you are doing makes you a good driver. Stay off the dam cell phone and drive. I am 22 I have Been in 3 car accidents 1 was bad It was not my fault I was not ticketed the other driver who was a mother in a van turned in her seat taking her eyes off the rode to diciplin her kids she ran throung the blind intersection and T- boned my car thank God on the passenger side (no body was in the passenger side) She was going 65 in a 35. My car flipped I don't know how many times. I woke up in the drainage ditch. She was 41 years old. I was 16 then she tried to blame it on me saying that I was a young and inexperenced driver. The cop actualy started laughing at her stateing I can't believe you just said that, after telling me what you did. When I was 17 an numb skull talking on a cell phone ran through a red light. My reaction saved it from beaing a major accident. If I where not paying attention I would have probably plastered him all over the pasenger window. I wound up not hiting his car but I side swiped a light pole. The person stopped aproched me and told me that I needed to pay atention to my driving and that is why kids should not drive then asked me if i was ok. Fortunately for me a NY state trooper that was off duty witnessed the whole thing he also had to swerve to get out of the way. He was ticketed for running the red light. After talking to my dad he dicided it would be cheaper to pay for the dammages to my car than to go to court. I do not know how old he was but he had a greay beard and greay hair. The third one I got rearended by a drunk who was 35 years old I could not do anything but hang on I saw it comming, there was several cars infront of me. Yes I do thingk the laws shoud be strict for inexperenced drivers. But that also goes for the 25 year old that just got his license. I've just been luckey. Think of how many times you ran a red light and did not mean to how many times have you switched lanes and sombody had to slam on their breaks to stop an accident. Sorry it just erks me when people say that kids are such bad drivers. Bad drivers are bad drivers no matter what age they are. I am also not saying that I am this great driver I have made my stupid and brainless mistakes that could have been disasters. We are not perfict. |
Where do you live? I live in North Carolina and we have to wait 12 months for a Permit to become Licence but if you take Drivers Ed with the school its free. |
I agree with the law in question. Don't rush things. You need some training time behind the wheel before you apply for and receive your license. Go over to the forums at caranddriver.com and post your complaint there; you'll get zero sympathy. They consider US licensing requirements to be waaayyyy too lax.
And that experience can be obtained as a permit holder under the supervision of a qualified adult.
I am all for more stringent licensing and renewal requirements for elderly drivers. We can refer elder drivers for evaluation once they get into acidents; until then, our hands are tied under current guidelines. |
I will vote for a law that gives mandatory tests to old cogers after the age of, oh 70 or so, hell yes. Everytime I drive near Sun City Summerlin here in Vegas it scares the shit out of me how bad these old farts drive. |
|
if it was my call 18 would be the minimum driving age. I can't tell you how many times i or my freinds did some really stupid things with cars. Luckily no one ever got hurt. When i was working EMS most of our MVA's were kids not being able to handle the vehicle. For what it's worth i also think their should be test for elderly drivers as well. Nut up kid. You haven't seen worries or problems yet. mike |

This is the kind of shit that makes supervised road time important! Local News: Monday, May 24, 2004 Girl, 15, killed in car wreck EDMONDS — A 15-year-old Mountlake Terrace girl died after the car in which she was riding struck a telephone pole in Woodway early yesterday. The car, driven by a 16-year-old Lynnwood boy, failed to make a curve in the 24100 block of 116th Avenue West at about 12:10 a.m. yesterday, according to police. A 15-year-old boy and a 16-year-old boy from Edmonds were also passengers. All four teenagers were taken to Harborview Medical Center. According to Woodway police, the teens were returning from a private residence in Edmonds when an officer standing in the parking lot of the Woodway police station heard the vehicle pass the station and crash. A car full of teenagers out at midnight. Any of them are lucky to have lived through that wreck. |
| Goddamned kids shouldnt be driving anyway. Bunch of immature, un-skilled, no courtesy, showoffs. You may ( and I stress the word "may") be able to operate a vehicle, but none of you can "drive" one. Specially not a damned pimply 15 year old. Grow up first you damned punks. |
ahyhhhh, the gold old days, being a teenager. TXL |
ohh, I thought he couldn't even get a permit, guess I was wrong |
Although when you can sneak off with a lady... driving fucking rules.
