Another thread about unions has me wondering how many brothers are on the board. I work out of L.U. 948 Flint MI. Right now things do not look to good for some of our members. With all the classifications combined we have about 175 on the books. Our total membership is around 850. The tela Data guys are doing real well and some are working overtime. Residential is holding their own with half a dozen off. Inside wireman are taking the brunt of unemployment with 150 on the book. Some of whom are working out of town but not many. It does look like the summer season will help a few get back to work. It also looks like by the end of the year our local economy should be moving for wards. Good day to all, And keep up the good work. |

[plug for the IBEW] I'm not a union guy, nor ever have been, but I've had very good results using IBEW contractors to install my in-building radio systems that use fiber optic cable, coaxial cable and other assorted low voltage devices. IBEW isn't cheap, but I don't trust my customers and their $200k radio systems to just any ol' schlep. |
whats it look like for lineman over there? Im hopeing to get in with 125 i know its not over there but just curious |

I was with Local 26 in DC, and got RIF'ed 1 day short of a raise, and said fuck it. The communist rag that they sent was full of socialist crap, as are the vast majority of the leadership. THe only holiday days off we had were T-giving and the day after, and Christmas. The union only endorsed democrats, and used our union dues to stuff the coffers of the democratic party. I will not fund the enemy. And I didn't really like working with electricity anyway. |

you may want to have him look into www.njatc.org its free. A lot of power lineman i talked to said that is the way to go if you dont mind moveing around. |

IBEW Local We have alot of work in our territory right now. Many out-a-towners. The summer should be good. I hear through the grapevine that some of the bigger jobs are fast track so some OT might be in order. At least until the holidays and then it will slow down again.
When we get referred out to another job, they have you sign for automatic dues deductions, and C.O.P.E., but they dont tell you. They try to be slick and just say, 'sign here and here'. I decide where my money goes. Hope work picks up for you. Machine Div A LU 3 IBEW |

I think Local 17 and 57, both in Detroit have linemen, but I am not sure if they are hiring. On another subject, am I the only one that is hoping that somebody starts building power plants and refineries? I know our nation could use more of both. And it would really help a lot of people in manufacturing and construction get back to work. |

| I was a proud member of IBEW Local 359 for many years. I just recently accepted a new postion with the company I work for that was outside of the Union. I could not be prouder of the work we performed and the companys growth/success shows the fruit of our labor. |
| I used to be a member of IBEW Local 319 in the U. P. of Michigan---got an opportunity to take a Journeyman E & I slot at an 'all salaried' self-managed work-team concept pulp and paper mill just across the boarder in Wisconsin. I am not here to knock unions, however, I must say that that move turned out to be one of the smartest things I ever did. |
Holy chit! Machine, you're a Westchester guy...some of my best friends are electricians (but I wouldn't want my sister to marry one). You ever go to the Raven's clambakes at Croton Point? A bunch of the old 501 gang goes up there. (I'm the token rivet-monkey) Helldog40 Ironworkers' Local 40 NYC |
Never got around to hitting the Raven's, always heard good stories about them. I used to go to the Westchester Mechanics bakes every year to see old friends and catch up, but its turned into a suck-fest with all the politicing(sp?). I miss 501. Im foregoing all other bakes in preparation for the bash to end all bashes, the party to end all parties. The only place to BE Sat June 19th!! |
Hmmm....Attention Whore? Troll? I dunno Dinger..some people just like to raise a ruckus I guess.... |
Not very bright would be my first guess, troll would be second. |
Why thank you. That's just the sweetest thing anyone's said to me all day. Just thought that with a little encouragement you guys might try standing on your own two feet for a change. Might be an educational experience. NMSight |
Dear ,If it wasnt for unions you would not be able to tell the difference between a Chinese sweatshop and our standard of living. Whether your ass cares to admit it or not, all of the current working conditions are things unions worked hard to change. Compensation, safety and standards are all things that have come from our union way of life. I am an extreme capitalist. I go where I can make more money for what I do than anywhere else. I am there. You are free to go BTW, the thread was "IBEW Members". You are not one so you are trolling. |
It's always interesting when people resort to name calling and diversion rather than facing the real issue. Do extreme capitalists sell themselves and their country out to make more money? Or is that really defining something else? NMSight |

Thanks alot for giving the the word troll a new meaning. ![]() ![]()

I read that and just laughed!! I used to do line work, and have "enjoied "the ice storms, tornados, wind storms and the heat. I'm a journeyman substation electrician now, but I still remember all that. I guess he can't identify with that type of work,( I'll bet he's never even been close) or he would respect those that take pride in the skills of their craft, and maintain a standard above the norm. brianksain
I'll bet $100.00 he( NMSight)doesn't have the balls ( or the skill ) to hotstick a energized 138kv jumper on or off, and if he tried, I'd bet another $100.00 he would piss his pants when he saw the result!! Edit to clarify who I was commenting about. IBEW 1002 Tulsa Ok |

When I was a kid I remember my mom crying because my dad always got called out in the middle of the most fucked up storms at crazy hours to get the power back on. He was a lineman in rural north dakota for 25 years. He had some crazy stories to tell that made you amazed that more of those guys didn't get killed by storms or electrocution. Tough job played hell on his body as he got older. |
ROFLMAO !!!!!! Ahhhh yessssss this takes me back to MICRON Project in Boise ID. Anybody make phase 1, 2 or both ? It was pretty fun in a right to work state ................. from a shit talking point of view. The clean room RULZ baby ! A not too distant Bro. UA# 26 |
