Another thread about unions has me wondering how many brothers are on the board.

I work out of L.U. 948 Flint MI.

Right now things do not look to good for some of our members. With all the classifications combined we have about 175 on the books. Our total membership is around 850. The tela Data guys are doing real well and some are working overtime. Residential is holding their own with half a dozen off. Inside wireman are taking the brunt of unemployment with 150 on the book. Some of whom are working out of town but not many. It does look like the summer season will help a few get back to work. It also looks like by the end of the year our local economy should be moving for wards.

Good day to all, And keep up the good work.

I'm not a union guy, nor ever have been, but I've had very good results using IBEW contractors to install my in-building radio systems that use fiber optic cable, coaxial cable and other assorted low voltage devices.

IBEW isn't cheap, but I don't trust my customers and their $200k radio systems to just any ol' schlep.

I was with Local 26 in DC, and got RIF'ed 1 day short of a raise, and said fuck it.

The communist rag that they sent was full of socialist crap, as are the vast majority of the leadership.

THe only holiday days off we had were T-giving and the day after, and Christmas.

The union only endorsed democrats, and used our union dues to stuff the coffers of the democratic party. I will not fund the enemy.

And I didn't really like working with electricity anyway.

We have alot of work in our territory right now. Many out-a-towners. The summer should be good. I hear through the grapevine that some of the bigger jobs are fast track so some OT might be in order. At least until the holidays and then it will slow down again.

When we get referred out to another job, they have you sign for automatic dues deductions, and C.O.P.E., but they dont tell you. They try to be slick and just say, 'sign here and here'. I decide where my money goes.

Hope work picks up for you.

No linemen in our local. Consumers Power Co. runs an open shop. I think Local 17 and 57, both in Detroit have linemen, but I am not sure if they are hiring.

On another subject, am I the only one that is hoping that somebody starts building power plants and refineries? I know our nation could use more of both. And it would really help a lot of people in manufacturing and construction get back to work.

Never got around to hitting the Raven's, always heard good stories about them. I used to go to the Westchester Mechanics bakes every year to see old friends and catch up, but its turned into a suck-fest with all the politicing(sp?). I miss 501.

Dear ,

If it wasnt for unions you would not be able to tell the difference between a Chinese sweatshop and our standard of living. Whether your ass cares to admit it or not, all of the current working conditions are things unions worked hard to change. Compensation, safety and standards are all things that have come from our union way of life.

I am an extreme capitalist. I go where I can make more money for what I do than anywhere else. I am there. You are free to go scab to a non-union shop, er workplace and always be looked at as substandard. Everyone knows, except those in denial, that union work is the standard.

BTW, the thread was "IBEW Members". You are not one so you are trolling. And we all know a troll would climb over 99 whores to rub one off on his own sister. Paybacks a bitch.....in a red dress.

It's always interesting when people resort to name calling and diversion rather than facing the real issue. Do extreme capitalists sell themselves and their country out to make more money? Or is that really defining something else?

What a bunch of bull. The only reason the conditions were poor in the late 1800's is the glut of labor from unchecked immigration. Supply of labor was excessive so pay and conditions were poor. If you have not grasped basic economics you should just collect your money and be thankful. The tide rises and falls with immigration, unless you have some sort of skill. If you can be replaced by an illiterate illegal then what the hell did you expect? $25 bucks an hour for being able to wield a shovel, come on! If you can be replace that easily by someone from a third world country you SHOULD be making a third world wage PERIOD. Planerench (lets see how the catfish like this bait) out.

I read that and just laughed!! I used to do line work, and have "enjoied "the ice storms, tornados, wind storms and the heat. I'm a journeyman substation electrician now, but I still remember all that. I guess he can't identify with that type of work,( I'll bet he's never even been close) or he would respect those that take pride in the skills of their craft, and maintain a standard above the norm.

When I was a kid I remember my mom crying because my dad always got called out in the middle of the most fucked up storms at crazy hours to get the power back on. He was a lineman in rural north dakota for 25 years. He had some crazy stories to tell that made you amazed that more of those guys didn't get killed by storms or electrocution. Tough job played hell on his body as he got older.
