A girl that I am seeing is in the process of applying to be an FBI agent.  She shoots a .357 revolver, I have a Sig P229 in .40.  I thought that the FBI might cary the Sig, so I was going to familiarize her with my pistol.

I'm not sure what the FBI carries.

What he said.  They use to carry S&W 1006.  and before that .38's.  The Agents can also carry personal weapons from an approved list  once the wepon is inspected and often upgraded by their armoror's. ( I have a couple friends who are FBI agents).

Line agents are issued Glock 22s at the academy. Once they get out of training, they can carry a wide range of pistols from an approved list; it seems like pretty much anything in 9mm, .40 or .45. I think only the SWAT and HRT folks get to carry 1911s. Most seem to carry SIGs or Glocks.

US Marshalls also carry the Glock 22.  I think DEA does as well.

Troy,

I've run into some U.S. Marshalls here in the CPA in Baghdad and they're carrying 1911's in .45
ACP.  Two 10 round spare mags.  I'll double check on if they're Kimbers or Springfields.  I do know the ammo is Winchester 230 gr JHP's.

What difference does it make?  Most feds, regardless of agency (other than the Border Patrol) spends 99% of their time behind a desk, and a Lorcin makes just as nice of a paperweight as a Glock or Sig.

Might be true in some agencies, but surely not all. How many have you worked for?

Those US Marshals in Iraq are carrying Springfield 1911s. They are similar to the Springfields the FBI SWAT guys purchased in bulk.

They could have either Win 230 Ranger SXTs or Fed Hydrashok 230 in them. Both would be approved.

FBI carried the 1076 not the 1006, the 1076 has the frame mounted decocker ala SIG, on the 1006 it is located on the slide, just like a normal Smith

Last I heard they were moving to the SIG 229 in 357 just like the Secret Service carries

Let me guess, you're a fed that sits around all day and takes offence?

I haven't worked for any.  However I sold police supplies to just about every alphabet agency from fed level down to local PDs for 2 years, and talked to alot of the guys.  Most of the feds would even complain that they didn't do any of the cool shit they thought they would when they went in.  They wound up like Tom Hanks character in Catch Me If You Can.

If you want to actually have some action and be a fed, join the Border Patrol.  They get out there every night and get right in the shit.  Why do you think all the other agencies recruit so heavily from the BP, and why the BP makes you sign on for a minimum stint (can't remember if it's 2 or 3 years) to keep you from running off to a desk somewhere?

Scully and Boulder carried 228s.  I think after that shootout they can pretty much carry what they want.

OK, to all you speculators out there, here is the real deal.

My neighbor runs the Arizona Anti- terrorist Taskforce of the FBI in Phoenix. Is also the tactical commander of the SWAT Team, SWAT EMT and WMD/ EOD guy for Arizona (just got back from Saudi after doing the bombing investigation there).

He carries an issued Glock 22. Issue ammo is Speer Gold Dots, having replaced the Hydro shocks 18 months ago. His back up personally weapon is the baby glock in 40 cal ( I don't know the number). He bought that weapon & sent it to the armorers at HQ in Va. to get it "fixed" as all Glocks are by the FBI. He got that one because it would be able to use the issue mags in the little gun if need be. He is also issued a Colt AR15 with folding stock, Aimpoint mounted on the A2 carry handle. It'a a 16" with a preban set up on the muzzle end. Issue ammo is Federal Gold Match 69 gr. Also has an M79 with all sorts of ordinance for it.
And a Remington 870 riot 12 ga shotgun.

He would rather carry my Sig P220. He likes the 45 better "the bigger the hole, the harder they squirt". He could buy one & carry it and could use issue HRT 45 ammo (Remington Bonded Golden Saber 230 ge). But he says, what the heck, everyone else has a 40 and that would be a good thing to have interchangable ammo. So he carries the Glock.

In the last 25 years, the FBI never had .38's. They had S&W Modle 13's in 357 mag when my now retired FBI Agent friend went into the job in 1980. He always disliked the 9MM;"A 9MM is just a 45 set on stun!"

Nope, not offended and not a fed that sits around all day.

BP has a huge retention problem. That is why you see them fleeing out to other agencies. Not to mention SOME shitty posts BP work. Quite a few left for TSA/air marshals whatever they are called now at the beginning. Other agencies do know that a BP agent has made it through a very tough academy.

Huge agencies with several thousands of agents to investigate 2 suspects would leave most behind a desk.

Fortuantely there are several smaller agencies with plenty to do to keep you busy and on the street.

Hey, BP is really UNDERSTAFFED out here in the West. They need all the help they can get. But it's the higher ups with all their little EMPIRES that ghas caused lots of their internal trouble. Look whats happened to Customs since they were rolled up into the ICE or what the hell they are called this week. Homeland Defence has really caused a screwed up deal in all the PRE 9/11 agencies. And the damn FBI wants to be in control of everything. Hell, Customs was the best run Agency in the Govt. untill Homeland Defence screwed it all up. Have other friends who were Customs IA Agents who retired just to get out of the mess!

Going to take them time to sort it all out. I hope we have enough time left.

Same thing I use mine for; gas and impact rounds. 40mm is rifled and smokeless, unlike the lower-velocity, less accurate and much dirtier 37mm systems. 37mm is considered obsolete, and most agencies with the money are replacing theirs. Mine holds six and sports an EOTech (important, since we shoot gas through it and it is hard to get a normal sight picture while wearing a pro mask).

I wouldn't know where to start at getting HEDP or any of the serious stuff for it; none of the LE distributors carry it and we could only shoot it on military ranges, anyhow, because of the high dud rate. It would be fun to pop off six rapid-fire rounds of the high-test stuff though. I imagine it would be kind of like having an artillery barrage in your pocket, though it has no conceivable LE purpose.
