My 5 year old son loves to look at daddy's gun and hunting magazines...he will sit on the jon with The Shotgun News...he likes shooting games for the PC, X-box and Gamecube. I bought him a Red Ryder Buck BB gun for Christmas...I keep it in the safe and showed him my guns this year and could see he was a little afraid/shy about them...he does well in school and has many friends...a buddy of mine says he's a little "to into guns" what do you think???

Little boys want to be like their fathers, if he sees you doing it, he is going to do it also.

Doesn't sound strange to me.

Just take him shooting so much that it becomes like riding a bike. In that I mean that guns won't have this mystique abotu them that will have him wanting to play with when daddy isn't around. Get him so used to them and teach him so much safety that he wouldn't give a second thought to looking at them when you aren't around because it would be no idfferent than looking at a tool or something.

"Ehh... just another gone. No biggie."

Yeap, the fun part is when they become teenagers and you watch them struggle with independance and your teaching at the same time.

Quite amuzing at time really.

As long as he is not polishing his helmet at the same time!  You should stock a couple Sports Ill Swimsuit additions for that....

Ya know what's cool?  IPSC matches where Dads and Daughters compete.  Seeing a 14 year old girl work a 1911 as calmly as she would the remote control to a TV really, really lends an aura of "non-worry" to a subject like this.

"Too into guns..."   PFFFFT!

There should be more kids like yours.

Do you ever say that?  I don't.

Sounds like me when I was a kid.

Ok...now that you mention it that might be a problem after all!
Seriously, I think it's perfectly normal and sounds like a great kid.

Too into guns? Is that possible?

It sounds like you got yourself a little 3 foot tall red-blooded American on your hands! If you properly encourage his interest in firearms, I'm sure he'll grow up to be a man of strong convictions, strong moral charachter, a strong sense of heritage, plenty of self confidence, and he will most likely look back on his childhood with fond memories!

I have a 3 year old boy.  Wants to be just like daddy in every way... Now and then he'll ask to see my guns, by name.  "Daddy, can I see the AR15?" and we'll go look at it.  He's fascinated.  He's learning all the parts of the gun and not to touch the trigger.  After we put it away then he'll say "Hmm now can I see the shotgun?" so we get the shotgun out .  He has a couple toy guns, and a couple foam ones I made for him when I cut out the foam from my Starlight case.  Sometimes I'll go by his room at night and he has them all pilled next to him in bed LOL.  Oh yeah, I got him a cap gun the other day, one of those 8 shot or something revolvers.  I'd load it up for him and he put on my ear and eye protection and went in the back yard bang bang bang bang bang... then "Daddy I need to reload!".

Oh yeah... I made the mistake of letting him see my play Battlefield 1942 (with the Desert Combat mod).  Oh man!!! Now all the time he says "Let's play Combat Desert!!".  I don't really want him seeing all the gore in those games but I'll fire one up and run around and blow up tanks and stuff, he can't get enough of it.

Is my kid normal?

NO!
He's far better than "normal."  If he was normal he'd be taking fistfuls of Ritalin, hiding behind Mommy's skirt, be afraid of every damn thing.

Good for you!

Oh, good for him, too.

My parents wouldn't let me have toy guns when I was very little.  My mom told me that I started biting my sandwiches into the shape of a gun an shooting people with it.

At that point they figured it was a lost cause and let me get some toy guns.

Or a woman?
