I am probably going to buy a new rifle in the next few days.  I think I want to buy a CAI .308 CETME.  I know the recievers weren't the best in the past, but a lady(that I can trust) at one of the gun stores I frequent told me that CAI told her they have fixed the problem/improved the reciever while she was at the SHOT show this year.

What do any of you know about this?  What do you think of the CETME and what was the problem with them anyway?

not 100% first-hand, but i'll tell you this:

a co-worker and fellow shooter picked one up about 6 months ago. what i've heard about these guns is that they are very hit-or-miss. they either work, or they don't. anyhow, my buddies DID NOT.

every 5 rounds or so the gun would FTF. the bolt would not lock foreward. every time this would happen, we could strip it apart, clean it, lube it, put it back together, and it would run for another 5 rounds. that didn't last too long. so he got rid of the rifle.

directly after he picked up one of the JLD PTR-91 rifles (just before they had that nice little price jump). i have personally seen him put about 2000 rounds through it and have not seen 1 malfunction. bear in mind he has cleaned nothing other than the bore and chamber to date.

Atomicferret,
I have a Cetme that I have had for about a year that I purchased from AIM. When I ordered it they told me it would need about 200 rounds put through it to break in the new receiver. I took it out to shoot and it did hang up on me a few times, but after about 100 rounds it was purring like a kitty! My buddies liked it so much they purchased ones themselves. One of them even got 2. They all got great guns too! Their guns did not require the break in mine did, but they function just as well. Accurate, no jams, and a surprisingly low recoil for a fairly light and compact gun in .308. I think you will enjoy it if you purchase one.

My century cetme worked just fine.  Not as clean as an HK91 but $1500 less!
