I've read mixed reviews. Just don't go expecting it to be a true story or even based on a true story. Apparently it's just a big lie:

The one review I heard said it was a quality movie. FWIW.

Roger Ebert, politics aside, is a movie critic I use as a decent yardstick.  So long as it's not an "art film," if he likes it, I generally do.

He says "Hidalgo" is your basic decent tall tale, cowboy style.

I'll go see it.

Since it has a Danish guy starring in it, it must be good [:D]

I saw the preview when I rented Pirates.

It looks pretty cool.

The "Danish guy," Viggo Mortenson, was Aragorn in "Lord of the Rings" and one MAJOR anti-war idiot.

But if I stayed away from movies starring left-wing asshats, I'd never see another movie.

Guy at work said it was good.  Definitely worth the ticket price.  I think we're going to see it tommorow.

The person is real.  The story is fiction

For what it's worth I boycott movies with major lefties in it. By the way, they did this on History vs. Hollywood, & it looks like the guy the movie is about was just a yarn spinning city boy.

True, false, every time I watch a Hollywood movie, I suspend my disbelief.  Looks pretty good to me from the previews, but it has been getting negative critical responses as shallow and cliched.  However, not every movie can be 'American Beauty', so shallow and cliched is fine with me.  I'll probably see it next weekend.

Got to attend a free pre-screening over 3 weeks ago.  I enjoyed it immensely.  Basic neo-western action and drama mix, some decent gun action (if not especially realistic).

Only gripe:  I am sick and tired of seeing late 1800s Cavalry Troopers being portrayed as bloodthirsty asshats.

Amusingly, I got the tickets to the pre-screening at a local gun range (Carter's Country)  [:D]

Other than the aforementioned anti-Cavalry sentiment, I enjoyed this move as well.
