I would like to verify... I just realized that when the awb goes away you can convert your rifles to "pre-ban" status. I have a 14.5" upper with a pinned or soldered AK brake making it over 16", if I were to remove that ak brake somehow i would now have a 14.5" barrel making my rifle illegal. correct? Even if i did put a vortex or phantom on it. same with my FAL, i used to be able to get a DSA 13" barrel, then silver solder a fake browning flash hider on it and it becomes legal lenght of 16" But after the sunset, i will now have to START with a 16" barrel and go from there. I could still go with the fake flash hider, but if real ones are avalable it is obvious i am going to use one. can a silver solder the FH to it and would that count as barrel extention(probly not)? yes, SBR would be cool, but i live in CA, so that is out of the question. |

The barrel must be at least 16 inches long as measured from the breech face while in battery. Any attachment is considered part of the barrel if permenantly attached (Welded, blind pinned, or 1100 F+ silver soldered). Thus, if you want a FS, and your starting point is less than 16 inches, you must permanently attach it using one of the above methods. This is an NFA thing. Don't confuse it with the ATFs opinion on 'how to make a threaded barrel pass the AWB test'. The NFA requires permanent attachment for length reasons, and the AWB requires it to make the threads legally disappear. |

http://www.dsarms.com/item-detail.cfm?ID=00116CREP&storeid=1&image=feelite.gif this is what i want to put on my fal, but i want a real FH when the awb sunsets.. so now i know i can perm mount a real FH and be legal! yes, i know its a 13" barrel.. but hey.. chicks dig 13" barrels. |
