Just a note for you guys. My grandfather, Richard W. Carrier, Col., USAR Ret, ended his battle with cancer at 4:09 P.M. on 03-11-04. He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren.

He participated in the Normandy invasion but was captured and spent a year in a POW camp. He went on to serve in Korea during that conflict. He did not have to go to Vietnam. He retired from active duty in 1970.

He was 85 and 3 weeks shy of his 50th wedding anniversary. He is now watching over his family from above, and is no longer in pain. In the end he went on his terms when he was ready.

Miss you Pop Pop, see you on the other side.

DITTO that
Sorry for your loss.
Sometimes I still tear up when I am reminded of my old grandpa(been couple years now...).  Something like a WWII movie, vets day, or sometimes just a nice old guy will remind me of him.

Our WWII veterans are passing at the rate of 1,000+ a day....It's a shame that so much of the younger generation has no appreciation of how much we all owe to the men & women who brought this nation through a Depression, World War II, Korea and the Cold War....They did it all with courage & honor, and without self-pity, because they accepted that it was their duty to do so.

RIP Col. Carrier....with all of your comrades.

Best wishes to you and your family in a difficult time.  Very nice to hear about vets like him and what they did, especially those that stayed in service to their country for so long.
