anyone know who has them on sale, this will be my first one, so I don't need anything too fancy, just cheap and reliable and accurate.

Thanks

Several "Chrony" ones here: http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?MfcISAPICommand=GetResult&ht=1&SortProperty=MetaEndSort&query=chrony&?query=chrony

Mines the high end model, but it's good one, suspect low end models use same internals.

hi Tx,
I agree with mr_wilson.
I've got the Gamma Master Chrony.  It works well for me.  Over at the "Hide" there's heated discussion about this topic.  You can get yourself killed over there for recommending "Chronies".  The consensus there strongly favors Ohlers.
If you get a Chrony, get yourself a decent tripod to mount it on.  The "folding" design requires a mount which will hold the thing fully open.  You can't just prop them up on a log and have them read accurately.

We list the Gamma nearly every day on Gunbroker for $155.00

This one ends in 4 hours, but it will be listed again tomorrow.

Other Chrony items are on there too.  Hope this helps.

I have a refurbished "basic Chrony" that I bought directly from Chrony that gives me velocity only.  I think I paid about $45 dollars for it.  It works fine and is adequate, but, if I were going to buy another unit, I would be sure to get one that offered a little more information.

I would agree that the Ohler offers some units that may be more sophisticated, but I wouldn't hesistate to buy another "Chrony" model.  I don't really want all the features that some of the higher end models offer; everyone is different!  Coolio is right about the tripod.
