A guy I used to work with has a viper and a lightning. I asked him if they were fast. He told me scary fast. I had no clue what he meant. My BMW will do 130 with no problem. SO at my new work place, one of the owners has a Ferrari 360 Modena. He gave me the keys about 20 minutes ago, and told me not to hurt myself. I now know what Dave, (the first guy) meant by scary fast. I also now truly know the definition of exhilerating. IF you ever get the chance to drive one, do it. Those of you (the lucky ones) who own one, share the joy with those who can appreciate it. What a thing of beauty. TXL |

To truly be 'scary fast' you need to fear death. LOL TRG |
| Those 360s are quick but your other pal's Viper would probably lay waste to that Modena. I know a few guys with superchargers on their Vipers. Sick stuff (600 RWHP?). I test drove a Ferrari 550 Maranello. It was pretty impressive (loads of torque available all the time). They aren't the quickest cars on the road but the Italians sure do know how to design the body of a car. |

Lightning is the Ford Lightning, a pickup with 400+ hp. (Same guy just got #1 of 50 viper trucks, got to do a pace lap at daytona a cpl weeks ago) It's a 500 hp dodge truck. Scary fast is tooling onto the tollway in dallas, not looking at the speedo, just going through the gears, and when you look, the speedo says 140. That was an accident. Coming back the other way was not an accident [:D]. It was a little faster. And yes, there are many cars out there with more torque than the 360, but when you're used to a 528i, there is a world of difference. TXL |

Quoted: The Flying Scot, Jackie Stewart said "fast" was in excess of 212 mph... The wee Scot also has a healthy fear of ARMCO. I've met the man, and I must say that he's probably the last of the true "gladiators" of open-wheel racing. He's also one of the few that got out with all of his OEM parts intact. BTW...Did you also know that he's a world class shotgunner? He was a champion in trap, skeet, and sporting clays. he had to make a decision as to whether or not to join the Scottish Olympic shooting team, or further his racing career. IMO, he chose wisely. The man was a joy to watch on the race track. His style was like Prost's (or vise versa), in that he was going fast, but didn't LOOk like he was going fast. A very skillful, uncanny driver, he. |

120 in a Neon isn't terribly exciting. Stupid governor.... 120 in a Buick Century.....well.....that gets a little TOO exciting. No governor that I could tell, but quite frankly I decided enough was enough. 120 in Cav z24...boring. Stupid governor. Anyone know how to disable the governor on an '89 Z24? |

Scary fast... Indicated 120mph in this thing, pre-upper windshield: Actual speed was northward of 150mph as inidcated on the handheld GPS in the friend's Corvette {C4}. He was behind us while we pulled away....[shock] Have also been blessed to ease up on 140mph in an NSX and it is rather uneventful. How about riding shotgun in a two seat 215mph funny car??? [wow] |
|
Quoted: That thing is a brick, how much power is that engine putting out? TXL A very LIGHT brick.....it's all about power-to-weight ratio. I'm not sure it was ever dyno-ed in it's last configuration. Before any head work, new cams, new exhaust and such it was putting down around 300rwhp. The car weighed under 2000lbs with my 250lb father in it. |

IMHO, 'scary fast' is only 'scary' the first time... Fastest I've ever driven was 135MPH in a 97 Z28. Not close to scary or top speed (LT1 Z28 -> no governor), but I ran out of straight road and got too close to civilization (with the inevitable speed traps), so I slowed down... I don't know how fast I've had my bike, just that it's over 85 (speedo limit), and I have reached the mechanical top speed - probably ~ 100mph (22yo 450cc bike)... The only thing I can relate to as 'scary fast' was 110+ on a snowmobile. What you're riding makes a big difference... |

Quoted: Your new boss let you borrow his $120K Ferrari? No, He let me drive (by myself) his $180,000 Ferrari. But I have been working with him for a year, and he knows I take good care of my BMW, when I'm not 4 wheeling in it at the Hun Farm. He said he let very few people drive it, just those who knew how to appreciate it. He was not suprised when I told him I accidently hit 140, nor faster when I meant to. TXL |
| Fastest I've ever been was in my '03 Maxima on the west side of I-275 crossing the Ohio River bridge southbound into Kentucky...pulled strong all the way to 131 mph GPS verified...she was capable of quite a bit more, but I had to let off as traffic was ahead. Car was solid as a rock. |

I am not sure what I would define as scary fast. I dont think that I have been worried while riding in a car at high speed. I would ride with one of my buddies in HS who would drive at 115 all the time. Side street free way did not matter where he was. It was stupid, and were were lucky not to hurt anyone, but it will take a little more than 115 between parked cars on side streets to get me to scarry fast. Oh, the fastest I have ever been was 125ish in my turbo shadow. |

Ive got a GSXR1000 poked and stroked engine in a GSXR750 frame with a 40 shot of N02. It grunts out 212 hp before the happy gas and that was with a TIforce pipe and not the Akro thats on the way now. Funny how the speedo stops at 187.... but the gps doesnt. 224 mph. Who needs a roll cage? |
| I have owned 8 sportbikes and have done 186mph 4 times and been over 170mpg over 30 times. You get used to it and my heard beats nearly the same as if i were sitting here reading this book. Now for real fun doing a wheelie at over 100mph is fun and gets the heart going. Doing a wheelie at 100mph is only midway thru 3rd gear and with 3 to go the fun really starts! |

I hit scray fats Saturday. Borrowed a friends 25 year old Dodge pick up. Jumped on the freeway and got up to 75 and relized the thing had a 1/8 turn off free play then would turn like you had thewheel cranked. It would not go in a straight line. Had to steer the tthing to keep it in the lane. I was more afraid of doing 65 in that thing then doing 130 on my bike. Scary fast is driving a pice of crap. |

105 in a Jeep Wrangler [:D] At that speed, all it takes is one stiff breeze, and it'll blow you clear across any road you're on... And yes, it was downhill. Only way you'll get a Wrangler over 95 is if you're going downhill [:)] It may not have been "fast", but it certainly was scary... |
|
Quoted: BS, no way he reached 185 down a city street, I doubt his 94 supra can even hit 185 Not sure about the city street part but there are many 94 Supras (modded) that will do over 185 MPH. Some of these guys have them puting down close to 1000 HP at the wheels. That is enough power to make th car run away from a 217 MPH McLaren F1 (traction permitting). |

110 in an Accord--not bad, I ran out of road. 107 in a Grand Marquis--Fine, rides nice, but the steering sucks and the suspension cant handle a turn at that speed. I accidentally jumped it on the RR tracks at 90 once too, that was fun. 106 in my lifted F250--Scary, but not too bad. Requires CONSTANT attention. Bounces a lot, and the wind noise is a pain in the ass. 100 approx on a 600cc Honda dirt bike--now this is my only experience with "scary fast". The tires were non DOT dirt only knobees, and the road I was on was more of a pot hole field than anything paved. I didnt have gloves or pads so I slowed down. Did I mention that I did this yesterday, and this is my third day of riding? |

I still call BS that on a city street, like I have around here 185mph would be impossible. Unless the city street happens to be a piece of an interstate that happens to cross a city limit...like I66 through Fairfax...[;D] |
