| Yesterday I saw some men on TV with blue t-shirts on that said Kerry Kops. I don't know if these guys were just supporters, security or off duty cops in support of that POS. If they are indeed cops, I'm going to find their website and give them an earful. Anyone know about these idiots? |
| It was probably a cop. Kerry has really been pushing the "George Bush isn't funding Homeland Security" angle. The Firefighters Union is already behind. It won't surprise me if the nationwide FOP backs him. If that is the case, the phone calls to my house asking for donations better stop immediately |

Quoted: Those Union fvcks would support Daffy Duck if he was running as a dim-o-crap ... Yup, any angle they can get another freebie handout. Their days are numbered, the jig is up. Unions are for lazy asshats IMO. ... You want job security? - When you get to work, do some for a change. ... You want financial security? - Take responsibility of your income, and live within your means. ... Don't like your income? - Go to school and learn some skills that are marketable. You're nuts if you think I am going to pay a laborer $30/hr. ... You want medical healthcare? - Invest in yourself by living healthily, invest in a group insurance plan. ... It's all about personal responsibility, something that is lacking in the Democratic Party. Remember, they want YOU to pay for their livelihood. It's easier than working for them. |

Why the difference betwixt the dems and the repubs is this son:The democrats is fer the workin man and the republikins is fer the rich man.You work fer a livin son,so yous a democrat. Democrats will vote for anything that smells like a kennady.Including lurch/kommiekerry,the pt boat skipper. The kerry kops will soon be kicking your door down demanding "contributions."Or,they burn down your hut and rape your wife while killing your kids.Somethings never change.I wonder if the kerrykops will wear red stars on their helmets? |

Day-to-day police work is so amorphous that it is easy (and apparently fun) fun for a supervisor in a police agency to pound the shit out of any employee he doesn't like. How do you measure police performance? Citizen complaints? Guess what: the cops with the most complaints are the ones doing the best job in the most dangerous neighborhoods. Arrests? The two kinds of cops with high arrest rates are (a)the ones doing the best job in the most dangerous neighborhoods and (b) sociopathic assholes. Tickets? We've had that discussion recently on this board. I think cops in large departments need unions or very very aggressive and independent civil service boards. |

Great, its no longer about arresting people doing illegal things, its about meeting quotas. |

Great, its no longer about arresting people doing illegal things, its about meeting quotas. I think you missed the point. Except at extremes, arrest rates tell you nothing about what kind of job a given cop is doing, because it can mean either that he's doing a good job or that he's a power-hungry nut. There aren't many (if any) objective measures of an individual officer's performance. They are therefore vulnerable to unfair treatment by their superiors. Therefore, they need unions or strong civil service protection. |

The Boston Police Dept. is planning on endorsing Kerry. They are withholding that endorsement until they reach a contract settlement with the city. Currently 30 of the city's unions are without contracts. The BPPA (BPD union) wants Kerry to pressure Mayor Tom "Mumbles" Menino to settle the city's union troubles before the DNC. Although the police dept. is barred by law from striking, it could make for an interseting week here if the city's unions are without a contract during the Democratic National Convention in July. In 1988 when Gov. Michael Dukakis was the Dem. presidential nominee, the BPPA backed George H.W. Bush over the hometown candidate. I guess times have changed! |

Don't larger agencies have civil oversight committees or internal "Human Resources" departments that define guidelines for employee performance. ... If not, I guess that's the downside of working a not-for-profit organization. ... It seems to me, any (public or private) management worth its salt would demand a performance system to weed out slackers. |
| Public employee unions love Democrats. Translates in to fatter salaries and benefits, hile being impossible to fire and unaccountable for performance. Look at California; public employee unions bear most of the cost that busted their budget. Gray Davis was their bitch. |

| Keep in mind, the union officials may say the union is backing Kerry, but I don't know ANY rank and file types who like Kerry, and I know a lot of firefighters and cops. It's like when they say the police are for the AWB. It's not the regular cops, it's the management/political types. |
