What guarantee is there that the ban will sunset as stated in your post (no discussion possible/locked)?

I have read it here before, but no link or proof has been mentioned. In short, what is preventing a new AWB bill from being fastracked thru?

The ban that was passed in 94 included a clause saying something along the lines of "this whole thing dissapears in a puff of smoke 10 years after the date of enactment"

It is against the rules for them to try putting something back up for a vote if it was already voted down once in the same year, so we don't have to worry about them extending the ban for 10 years like they tried to do today.  There is nothing that prevents them from trying to push through some other ban as bad or worse than what we have, of course.

You can't resubmit a bill, but afaik, there's nothing preventing them from trying to get a bill that was already sumbitted voted on, or creating an entirely new bill.

But putting it through  with a pro-gun bill was the best chance they had for getting it voted on. Which is kinda heartening, since it shows enough republicans in the senate have the guts to pull an entire bill if it means an anti-gun amendment is attached. Hopefully that's not a one time thing.

But it's amazing that only 8 senators voted for it.  I suppose the libs want the ability to sue gun-makers more than they want the AWB.

I suspect this is part of the parliamentary rules that Congress uses to manage day to day operations.  If people were allowed to submit bills over and over no matter how often they were voted down then it would cause gridlock.

maybe i'm missing the point here, but an AWB bill wasn't introduced. 1805 is the bill and the AWB extension was just an ammendment to it. i don't think feinstein would have given up her only chance for an AWB renewal that easily
