[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Conduct Code Changes (Page 1 of 2)

In preparation for the upcoming changes, the Conduct Code was updated and moved to the communities bar. (Right next to search!) We tried to be as clear as possible in order to avoid any confusion. We also tried to examine past trends and problem areas in order to avoid them in the future. I ask that everyone take a moment to read through it and ask any questions they may have. |
|
2.) Posting pictures or links to images which contain pornography, nudity*, animal cruelty, racism, or sexism. Also avoid posting any photos of violence which are graphic in nature without a warning in the topic title. (Any images of violence which are extreme will be removed.) *Nudity includes any photo which contains a clear view of genitalia or female nipples. I'm reading this to mean that as long as no genitalia or nipples are showing, then it's a go. Does this mean that BOTD is back outside of the team forum? |
|
Well, I only read it when I first came to the site a couple years ago. so I don't know if it's any different... I always figgered common sense would prevail...It has. Has #6 always been there?? 6.) Repeatedly attacking or insulting a person in an effort to elicit a negative response. You have a right to disagree, but please do so in a respective manner. I have a "friend", and just when I get ready to deal with him, I seem to get "interupted".... [:D] Perhaps, the pit........ Thanks for all your hard work GB, hope all is well, with you and yours.... [snoopy]!!!!!1 |

I'm reading this to mean that as long as no genitalia or nipples are showing, then it's a go. Does this mean that BOTD is back outside of the team forum? That's correct. The CC should be clear enough to cover what is acceptable and what is not. Those who violate the CC will be punished as needed, and we look to you guys to police your own and ensure that people do not ruin things for everyone. Keep in mind that there are rules there which are meant to protect the site and which do apply to BOTD type threads. Multiple BOTD threads wont be tolerated, sexist comments within these threads wont be tolerated, and so forth. !!! - NOTE - !!! At this time I will ask that people PLEASE wait to post these types of threads until we have re-launched next month with an abundance of bandwidth. (This is to be respectful to those around you!) |
|
Quoted: What happened to the old "trolling" rule? [:D] It exists in a more clear format. "Trolling" was pretty much an interpreted thing. What is trolling and how does one rate variations of it? What is stated now are specific instances to prevent specific actions. Rules which target attacking users in order to elicit a negative response are pretty clearly spelled out. Those which target threads which are damaging to the site or it's day to day functions are also covered. Again, threads cloned in attempts at drunken fun [;)] which waste resources are also clearly prohibited. All of these cover "trolling" in one form or another and are defined in a clear manner. |
|
Quoted: is posting a picture of a scantily clad women under the subject "i'd bang that shit like a screen door!" considered sexist? I'm not exactly sure that it would be sexist (more likely offensive), but either way I wouldnt risk calling a woman "shit" and expect the comment to be ignored. [;)] "I'd Hit It" may be a clear and unoffensive way to state the same thing. [:p] |
|
6.) Repeatedly attacking or insulting a person in an effort to elicit a negative response. You have a right to disagree, but please do so in a [red]respective[/red] manner. Is that a word??? Respectful???? [:D] I wanna make sure the i's are crossed, and the t's dotted on THAT one.... [;D] |
|
What about the time I posted offering to give a away a free NIW AR mag, but titled it something like you guys suck or something? Is that trolling? The thread was locked. I was told it was a worthless thread and hence gone...I still don't know what was worthless about it. Quoted: Quoted: What happened to the old "trolling" rule? [:D] It exists in a more clear format. Regarding threads with high pic counts... GB, your comment about "hold off on BOTD until we increase BW" makes me wonder.... a good portion of pics are not hosted on your server in these types of thread. Does viewing such a picture use any AR15 bandwith? If I host a picture on my own web space, does it use your bandwidth? Common sense makes me think it would not, but I do not know the technicalities of Internet. Thanks for the changes, BTW. They are most appreciated. I get a lot out of this site. (a lot of what, I'm not sure [;)]) |

(a lot of what, I'm not sure [;)]) No they don't, but we often get complaints about protected pics or pics linked from other sites and bandwidth theft. It's only polite that people use hosting available to them (either here or with someone else) to host the pics they link. The reason for the request is to ensure peace and calm before the storm. This move may put me in the grave and I would like to be able to focus on the task at hand and avoid any potential issues which may arise. In the past the BOTD (and similar) threads have failed because of people who do not follow the simple requirements for it. I would hate for it to happen again or to have to deal with it at this point in time. [;)] I will be modifying the CC to include a requirement that threads of this type be titled properly and that these types of pics be kept from random posts. (I dont want to stumble into a thread about the coming election and see someone spam it with pics or lewinsky or some girlie crap!) If people can police each other, then there wont be any problems with this in the future. |

I am opposed to all BOTD type postings on AR15.com. Miss RSA and SOME of the more tastefully done pictures of ARFCOM wives is about as far as I'd like to see it go here on AR15.com I am a single Christian, HETEROSEXUAL male with a strong desire to have sex with FEMALES. So those of you with the name calling.......God bless you. I come here to talk guns, the politics of gun ownership and to look for deals on gear. There are literally millions of pornographic sites on the internet, and several are even "gun" boards with pornographic tendencies. Why do we need to do that here? This is the best site devoted to AR15's on the net, let's not cheapen that with sleaze. I am asking that at the very least that we keep all BOTD type post's limited to the Team Forum. There is no reason to return to the same old cycle of rule breaking in the General Discussion forum. You know as well as I do, and everybody else does too, that the BOTD type post's soon spiral out of control. The limits are stretched and stretched until they are routinely broken. Threads are locked, accounts are locked then finally when Goatboy get's sick of playing babysitter to a bunch of grown men the BOTD get's banished to the Team Forum again. I've only been here a year or so and it's happened twice already. Please, reconsider the COC as it pertains to BOTD post's. |

I like GOOD DEALS on Gun stuff and I like PORN. I understand the BOTD part and therefore will not need any clarification. I would like clarification on when members can and cant post about good deals they find at a vendor that doesnt sell here. What is the rule ? [blue]Specific To Sales 1.) Companies or individuals cannot advertise or sell products in the forums (including siglines and titles) without prior approval from the site owners. (Industry Partners are allowed to post sales or specials on a limited basis.) 2.) Individuals interested in selling or trading equipment should resort to the Equipment Exchange. At no time should an item be listed in any discussion forum. (This includes links to auctions.) 3.) Fraudulent practices or attempts to defraud another person or group will be dealt with very seriously.[/blue] Say I find a good deal at Galls on knee pads and I post it here " Hey look knee pads for $2.00 at galls " I am not selling anything for anyone, all I am doing is passing along info to other team members. Who I am sure would like a good deal also. Is this against the CC ? |

Who I am sure would like a good deal also. Is this against the CC ? I don't think so. The intent is to keep non-paying businesses from advertising free, and to keep Members from "selling stuff" outside of the EE (hence the "no links to auctions"--which means YOUR auctions, not those you chance to encounter). If someone conspires with a retailer to "plug" his wares, that is quickly obvious and will be met with Thor's hammer. Merely pointing out that "XYZ has this for sale cheap" is not the intent of the rule, as I understand it. GB is watching this, and can further clarify, or correct me if I am wrong. |

My friend bvmjethead brings up a good point. Is there really an un-met need for more neecked women on the net? Is AR15.com the best place for it. I was looking at AR15.com just the other day with my 8 year old granddaughter sitting on my lap. I didn't need to worry about her seeing anything she didn't need to see. Why are we changing this? There are plenty of porn sites on the net. Why clog up AR15.com with this stuff? Please reconsider. Thanks. |

Who I am sure would like a good deal also. Is this against the CC ? I'm just like everyone else. If you find a good deal and wish to share it, 90% of the time it will be fine. If it's done in a manner to promote a company or their sales in a manner to circumvent our rules, you will be contacted. Why even mention this? Because it's happened on more than one occasion. (ie same vendor with repeated great deals, etc) Many times the sharing of a good deal, along with the mention of the site when orders are placed, leads to future relationships with that company and everyone wins. |

I didn't need to worry about her seeing anything she didn't need to see. Why are we changing this? There are plenty of porn sites on the net. Nudity will not be allowed on the site and these threads must contain a warning in the title of some sort. ("BOTD" or some other well known mention of what's inside!) The threads should be kept in line with the new CC or they will go away. I realize we've had issues with this type of thread in the past and can honestly say that we'll deal with any issues in similar manner. If people can't follow the CC, then these threads will no longer be allowed. |

There are plenty of porn sites on the net. Why clog up AR15.com with this stuff? Please reconsider. Thanks. I just want to add my voice to this chorus. I completely agree. It seems completely pointless to have these BOTD threads, where people come in and post 20 pictures from Maxim, or some other girly web-page. I can find sext hot women wearing bikini's (or much less) in about three seconds on the web. If you want to surf arfcom AND look at girly pics, then OPEN A SECOND BROWSER WINDOW and surf for porn or whatever to your heart's content. This is not some moralistic or censorship argument on my part - but girly pics on arfcom just seems so meaningless, particularly if it puts extra strain on bandwidth and capabilities. Just my 2 cents. |

I believe we should have the option to post exceptional or hard to find pictures. I don't see the point in having a running contest to see who can come closest to violating the COC or throw together a bunch of tired out pictures that everyone has already seen and probably doesn't feel like seeing again. If you have a picture of the hottie next door or your girlfriend (or HER girlfriend) feel free to post it. Don't post the same old pictures that have been making the rounds for months. Save our bandwidth for unique pictures that the rest of us are not likely to run across. |
