After surfing the web, I noticed 2 new icons on my desktop(This is on my laptop, an older IBM 760 running Windows 98 & Internet Explorer).I was not able to delete them. I then ran Adaware & Spybot. They were able to identify the objects, but niether one was able to remove them. One of the objects is a registry file, the other is a link to a web page advertising a pop up blocker. When I right click on them & click properties I get the message that the name of
the file given is not the correct one.I have run Adaware & Spybot several times but they cannot be removed.I have run scandisk & rebooted several times. Can anyone help with this? I thank you in advance.

First possible way to delete them would be to boot into 'safe mode' and delete them then... 2nd would be to boot to a command prompt and delete from there.

What does Adaware&Spybot say that it is?

Yep...there are many.  Run the name on Google and you may find a removal tool.  If it really grabbed your browser, you'll have to d/l the removal tool on another pc and copy removal tool to a floppy.  We go thru this at work on a regular basis.  Think the recent one is cool web. CWShredder will remove that one.
