There are far too many forms of stupidity to go into too great of detail to describe it.
I like to think of stupidity as a two way street where when you post something stupid it should be expected that some form of stupidity or another will come back at you, you can't dole it out without expecting a little in return.
With respect to one of the threads in question, it could have been a really fun discussion if it had been handled correctly but resorting to flames caused the whole thing to be squashed before it got interesting, once the issue had been discussed from a logical standpoint from there it could have involved into a nice match of who could out do who in terms of stupidity or bravado. I and many others felt it wasn't something that deserved such harsh critisism but it would have been fun to have a frank discussion while having some fun as well.
Some stupid is funny, some stupid is insulting, and some stupid is just plain stupid.
Most forms of stupidity don't offend me while others do.
There are those who can't tolerate any kind of stupidity whatever and then there are those who can't be anything else but stupid, both extremes are gonna be the hardest to deal with in this type of social setting. If neither can handle it then it would be nice if they would do us a favor and refrain from blessing us with their opinions on certain matters.
I'm glad that this forum is not your typical "cookie cutter" type firearm discussion forum, it's part of the reason I've been an active member at this site for 3 years now. It does seem to go in cycles though where we run through ruts of flame fests, ruts of typical newbie questions, and periods of positive discussion that greatly outweighs either of the other two cycles I mentioned.
I certainly don't want to see this forum get overly moderated and *gasp* too "PC", I'm pretty certain we'd lose a lot of "decent sort" members along with the typical trouble maker sorts.
Okay, opinionated member attitude off now.
EDIT:
And ofcourse there is the fact that this forum is a privately owned, paid for, and maintained site. Those responsible for it will make of it as they see fit, if one of these days I or a great number of others find that I no longer conform to the intended nature of this site then I'll have to pack up and move on. I'd like to think that everyone here is allowed the occasional vent every now and then when something or somebody gets them all reved up. But making a habit of being a constant thorn in the sides of multiple members ain't to be tolerated much by anyone of us or the concerned owners of this site.
Cheers.
