i'm going DSL, and just got the modem and stuff in the mail this afternoon. i got everything hooked up using the USB cable. i put the CD-ROM in to let it do its thing and nothing happens. figured my CD drive is screwed up, but it works with other CDs. it acts like it isn't finding the CD. any tricks to make it work?

turn it over [:)] j/k

Do you mean it just doesn't auto-start or do you mean it doesn't show up when you browse to it with file manager (or whatever it's called)

Whos service are you using?

Dont use USB! It is slow and problematic. You should set up a standard network and use a network card.

I believe the only thing on the CD is probably drivers and what not for a USB connection.

This may more information than you want but I'll chime in.  I agree with the above poster that you should not use the USB option.  You will be turning a USB connection into an ethernet connection.  I have never seen one of those go well.  You can get a network card for ~ 10.00 or a name brand TX one for ~ 20.00.  Just open the case install the network and get that running first.  I use Verizon DSL and have been happy with it for 3 years but I never use their software.  I hooked up a cheap router to the modem box, the router handles the PPoE login and password.  Since I started using the router (2yrs) I have fewer problems with timeouts or whatever other problems the software causes.

Good luck

Make sure you use a router between your pc and the dsl modem. You do not want to be directly connected to the internet. At the very least download the free firewall zonealarm from www.zonelabs.com.
