Lots of Brownsville is apparently liberal anti Musk. The are also anti data centers. There was a proposed data center and they went crazy (the builder of the data center was undisclosed). Tried to get a full moratorium on building data centers in Brownsville. Then weeks before they could schedule the meetings with the City Council for the moratorium - SpaceX gave Brownsville a one day only deal, de-annex some land and we will give you a boatload of money for water treatment. Now the groups are going berserk because SpaceX now has some more land outside of the city's jurisdiction. The speculation is that SpaceX wanted the land for the data center (not sure what is special about a data center next to Brownsville - thought they were building a huge one near Austin anyway). Socialism at its finest. They don't care that SpaceX is paying taxes (directly or indirectly) to the city - if the extra taxes are not paid, they feel they are still entitled to all the benefits anyway. |
