there's a whole bunch of diesels from that time frame that fart in your general direction

ETA:  still impressive, of course

Always impressed with those Saturns. Stupid reliable. Best looking engine bay ever.

Does it still get 36 mpg?

We got rid of our 94 with ~ 1/4 mil on the clock, and it still turned in 30 in town and 36 hwy.....

not fast, not sexy, but damn reliable and tough.   I miss it.

Hell my 2014 diesel truck has over 400,000.

...but then again it's a Peterbilt.

I was assured everything GM ever made was crap, especially modern GM, and yet... here we are.

Saturns are stupid good/reliable/tough vehicles in general.

The wife's 99 burns oil like crazy I guess because of the oil control rings. How's yours do on oil?

It sees mostly highway miles.  Mostly 75 mph.  It averages about 33mpg.  It will get 36+ if I kept the speed 60mph.

i've got a 2004 t300 with a cat that has 280,000 miles on it

the kicker there is that every single mile was within 30 miles of home base and there are LOTS of pto hours on her.  still goes out every day.

my '17 pete only as 12,000 on her so far, same difference

buuuut, i was thinking of pickup diesels with my comment...

I was told there is a design flaw with the rings.  Mine has been burning oil ever since 80k.  I add a half quart every 700 miles.  It has been that way for years.  I use Mobil 100% synthetic.  Change the oil/filter every 10k or so.

I'm not so lucky I add about a qt a week. It does smoke but the only real issue it gave me since 113k (it's at 133 now) was I had to put a new egr valve on it.

New rear struts and a full set tires a couple weeks ago.  It goes through front wheel bearings something awful.  Another design issue, I'm told.  I had an axle support bearing go out that I had to repair myself because the shop said the bracket/bearing was sold as a unit, and unavailable.  Replaced the radiator.  Other than that, it has been pretty good.
I'm on my 4th set of GoodYear Assurance tires.

A quart every 700 miles   Someone do the math on full synthetic.

333,333-80,000 = 253,333

253,333/700 = 361.904

361.904 x $6.97 (Mobil 1 5w30 Syn @ Walmart) = $2,457.33 (rounded up) in oil during those 253,333 miles lol.

can we see the body?

I had a 2002 Saturn bought is for a $1000 or so with 130K and put over 150,000 pizza miles on it my self. Loved that car

Had a 95 sc-1 and bought it with 170k and sold it with 210k.

Used 1 quart of oil every 3 tanks of gas. Approx 900 miles.

Used to joke about filling up the oil and checking the fuel tank level.

Got 31 mpg consistently.

Tinfoil hat:  tons of them were on the road.  Why buy a new one when the old one wasn't a rusty shit bag?  I mean, damn, 10 year old Chevy pickups here are rusting to pieces, but the body of my 16 year old Saturn is perfect.

Wow!

I thought I was doing good with an 07 Colorado with 271,000 on it.

That car is awesome!
