So i'm meeting with an HVAC guy for a new forced air furnace this morning. I have a tiny 1260' sq.ft. house.
I'm told to expect between 5-10K for the furnace installed. Is this realistic?  Seems like a lot but what do I know.

New furnace with no A/C and little ductwork? Or new HVAC system?

If either just new furnace or just furnace and mid range A/C system, you are getting "F'ed'' dry. [and really, REALLY hard]

Now if you are going for a hi efficiency heat pump type then the prices go up.

A standard 95+ two stage furnace is pretty cheap on the wholesale level. 80% are under $500, I can find 95%+ for $700-$750 on sale easily for that size house.

what brand are you looking for/at and what company, where in Mi?

Thank you. Just a new 95+ propane furnace with a bit of ductwork updating. I'll post back with the estimate.

you can buy it yourself on line for well under $1000.  Labor shouldn't cost another grand

most if not all manufactures will void the warranty if it's not installed by a licensed contractor

fuck the warranty. If he fucks up the i stall and causes it to last 2 years and not 10, at a savings of 4-9 thousand, he can go buy himself 1 new unit every 2 years for 10 years and still be ahead.

I bought my 2 zone fujitsu  minisplit and installed it myself for the cost of the tools i can sell back on clist any time. That unit does 2/3 of my house. At $3,200. I'm doing a similar yet smaller unit for the bedrooms in the spring. Fuck installers and their rediculous quotes. Ripoff artists.

Sounds like he won't have a quote ready until next week. It sounds like he's going to come in around $6500 to me.
I may be wrong. We shall see.

Cut it by 60% from there and you're getting into the ballpark for a simple furnace only change out. If you are anywhere around Jackson I can give you the number of a owner/contractor who does VERY good work at a great price.

I just installed a 5 ton, 14 SEER, Trane with a 120btuh, 2 stage, variable speed Trane furnace and communicating wifi stat and new return air plenum for $8500.

You do the math.

Way to high.
