Is literally the most overused word in the literal world.

I don't think so, dude.

No, it is probably "It" or "The"

Totally?
8/8/2017 2:13:50 PM EDT
[#10]
I disagree.

The most over used word is "Issue"

I had a real d-bag former coworker who used that word exhaustively and mostly out of context.

"LIT-ruh-lee"

I think he thought it made him sound smart when it actually made him sound like the fucking idiot he was and still is.

I still cringe every time I hear it. That and "Amazing".
8/8/2017 2:15:39 PM EDT

... pretty sure, "amazing" is used more frequently by female Facebook users

But what do you think about people who say "Amaze-balls"?

Do you remember that gem?
8/8/2017 2:21:10 PM EDT

What's scary is that an alternative meaning is now "figuratively" because stupid people are stupid  (literally! ).
8/8/2017 2:22:03 PM EDT
[#17]
Yeah, right.
8/8/2017 2:22:33 PM EDT
[#18]
Yeah, I think it has become a Millennial catch-phrase. I cringe when I hear it used now....It ranks right up there with "concerned".
8/8/2017 2:24:56 PM EDT
[#19]
I thought the incorrect use of the word "literally" has been replaced with starting every sentence with "So, . . ."
8/8/2017 2:26:55 PM EDT
[#20]
And "Ironically"
8/8/2017 2:33:15 PM EDT
[#21]
It's not quite as bad as the overuse of amazing and, lately, powerful.
8/8/2017 3:00:27 PM EDT
[#22]
It's right up there with "edgy".

I have been trying to coin Litereally - Literally Really - extra Literal.

It is a slow process, litereally.

Feel free to spread it around.

My wife overuses it quite a bit, generally in the incorrect context.  She'll say something like "I literally ran to the store."  I'll correct her and say "did you literally run to the store, or did you actually run to the store?"  She just tells me to shut up, but she's slowed down a bit in her usage of it thanks to me being awesome.

Back during the election Sean Hannity, on his show, said a focus group "literally died" when watching something Trump had said.  I was watching the clip and yelled at both the Youtube video, and any nearby clouds, that they did not, in fact, die.

No.  We were saying "Like" like too much.

My Millennial kid says literally all the damn time and not in the right context most of the time.

Her:  I was literally driving down the road and...
Me: So you weren't figuratively driving down the road, you were on the actual road, in your car driving?
Her:  Yes...what does that have to do with anything?  Anyway, I was literally driving and this guy, he just literally cuts me off, like literally inches from my bumper?!
Me: Yes, because if he was figuratively cutting you off that might not be as big of a deal and figuratively being inches away might be something else.
Her: It doesn't sound like you're taking me seriously.  I literally almost wrecked!
Me:  Yes.  It does not sound like a figurative situation.
