Are all Texas driver’s douches?  Or just the ones that come to the Florida Panhandle?  I just drove from Mary Esther to Niceville (around 31 miles).  Along the way:

On FL98 going through Ft. Walton Beach (45mph, two lane): a Texas driver was in the left lane doing 38 mph.

FL98 on Okaloosa Island, 2 lanes in each direction, 55mph.  There was a Texas tuna boat size SUV in the left lane going 48mph.

Turn from 98 to 298 (Mid-Bav Bridge) there are 2 left turn lanes and two straight lanes.  A Texas driver decided he did not want to wait in the turn lane, so he tried to make a left turn from a straight lane.  He got stuck diagonally in the intersection blocking the cars behind him and the cross traffic.  When we got the turn arrow, he floored it, completed the turn and slowed to 4 under the speed limit.

On the Mid-Bay Bridge (55 mph, one lane – No Passing) a fourth, different Texas driver was doing 43 MPH!

I am making a road trip to the west coast next month.  Back to my questions:
1. Are all Texan’s retarded when behind the wheel?
2.Will I be relatively safe traversing Texas on I10?
3. I wonder if anybody'd think I'd flipped, If I went to L.A., via Omaha

It's probably just people being out of their element. I drive a LOT in my business and, no matter what state I'm in, out of staters are the worst drivers.

Here in South Texas, Florida drivers make me want to stomp toddlers. But, then, so does everyone else with "ain't from around here" plates.

Yes, some motherfuckers around Dallas need to be hit in the head with a pipe. And I'm from Dallas. We drove from Dallas (home) to Columbus and back over 8 days and the most assholes we ran into anywhere was 60 miles outside of Dallas coming home.

You can be cruising along at 74, with 3 or 4 cars trying to pass a truck in the right hand lane doing 70, and some prick would blow up on the truck at 80, cram his cheap piece of shit in the 20ft between two cars and completely fuck up the flow, brake lights, everything, because he couldn't be troubled to get into line a creep around the truck like the rest of us.

My you fucking die of oral rectal cancer.

Im no overt Texas fan, but my first duty station was there..... I had never been to a place where slower drivers would pull off to the shoulder to allow faster cars to pass......  I was pretty impressed by that.....

That being said, folks out of their element tend to drive worse....   and most folks don't know know that on the gulf coast the speed limit sign is a suggested minimum....

Yeah Houston drivers suck!! They keep getting worse I swear. Too many people have road rage issues... It's like chill out, don't get on my ass, either notice the traffic in front of me or go around. They also have no clue how to zipper, nobody wants to let anybody in, so they just jam up and halt everything, idiots... Lots of assholes on the roads... They also don't know their right of ways either. It's like did they even take drivers ed? Or just get a license and everyone was like good luck everybody!!

If you see Texas plates outside of Texas, please forgive us; it is sometimes strange to be driving in a foreign country.

That being said, rural drivers in the city / suburbs or urban drivers out in the boonies are going to look retarded and out of place to the natives.

The problem with talking about "Texas Drivers" is that it's a huge ass place with a wide variety of people and places. Texarkana is closer to Chicago than El Paso.

I will say, every bad thing you hear about drivers in the Houston area is probably not only true, but an understatement. The roads there are overrun by fuckwits.

IM me your license plate, vehicle description, and itinerary, I can help ease your route in three counties on I-10.  Do you have a strong breed preference for drug dog?

And just so you know, it is 858 miles from Orange, TX to El Paso, TX.  That's a long way if you mess with Texas.

Is that what happened in the post I responded to? Further, let's pretend for a moment I was talking about truck drivers, if the difference in cruising speed between you and the guy in front of you is no more than 5 percent, just stay in the fucking slow lane.

In my perfect world the passing lane would be equipped with RFID sensors which picked up the RFID chip in the cab of every truck. If the cab is sensed in the left lane for longer than 60 seconds, the CDL of the guy driving should be automatically revoked by the issuing state.

Not only no, but hell no.

I've road tripped a variety of vehicles that had a limited speed for one reason or another. If I'm moving less than ~3mph faster than the vehicle in front of me, and I am unable to gain 3mph over the vehicle in front of me, I stay the hell out of the passing lane until something change.

The "five mile drag race" is completely inexcusable.

People driving in unfamiliar situations/locations all drive like "idiots".  It's a universal truth.
People in/around large cities all drive like "idiots."  That's another universal truth.

However, my experience with rural drivers in TX has been amazing.  They actually pull off to the shoulder to let you pass.  If they don't, they either know something you don't, or are from the city/elsewhere.  Heck, we even wave to each other.

I've driven in/around NYC, D.C., Baltimore, DFW, Indianapolis, Omaha, Sacramento, L.A., San Francisco, Portland, Denver, Houston, etc., etc. and they ALL make me want to kick puppies.  The backroads in TX however can be quite relaxing IME.

If you REALLY want your brain to explode, try driving the M1 in the U.K., or any 3rd World shithole (Indonesia, Thailand, Kenya, Kuwait, etc., etc.)  You'll quickly learn to appreciate American drivers.

No shit!

I go to the Florida panhandle twice a year. I'm constantly amazed and the poor driving of the natives and the absolute assholishness about passing. On a rural road in Texas if someone is going faster comes up behind you, you pull onto the shoulder and let them pass.

Not in Florida.

They will go for miles 10 under the limit.
