I lived in Daytona a decade ago, but was pretty new to carrying and all that. I had a Walther p99 that lived in my glove box, and a p22 I carried (I'm better now, I swear). But lets think that I'm going to take a trip and spend time on the beach again. In and around salt water and humidity, potential to get totally soaked. what do you carry and how do you set it up? how often do you clean? And do you not carry when you're just swimming for sure and carry when you're walking the sand?

concealment is tough when you're shirtless....

Glock 26 and a spare G17 mag in my weak side pocket or 2 in my bag. I don't get into the water so I usually wear cargo shorts.

I carry Glocks, never had a problem with rust.

I rusted the shit out of the front of my slide and a small section of barrel on my G19 after just a couple days in Key West.  IWB carry walking around town, not exposed to water, just my sweat which was wiped off nightly.  First time I've ever rusted a glock

For skeet surfing a semiauto 12 ga is probably best.

Ruger LCP in the pocket of my swim trunks. Rinse with hot tap water at end of day and lube with any CLP.

For a gulf/ocean sailboat I go with a stainless steel security six but still inspect/clean/oil frequently. That salt both in the watyer and in the air will get you quick.

Never leave stuff on the beach unattended.   It'll get stolen.  Especially if there are homeless around.

That's all I got to say.

I have a G19 made in 2012 (with the old finish, obviously) and it rusted in under a week on the barrel hood and just forward of it, not bad and most wiped away, but it has a little discoloration now. It's a tool, not really upset about it too much.

At the beach now and I got my Seecamp 25 don't care about it a lot and I brought some cleaning stuff and ammo with me.

I do whatever during the day, including getting in the ocean or a pool, clean the gun and rotate ammo at night.

No signs of rust though.

will likely swap to a stainless LCP when I find one.

With small LCP sized guns available for $200 there is no reason to ever go unarmed unless prohibited by law.

The same thing I carry everywhere else.  A VP9 and an extra mag.

I just clean it after I get home when I've finished  cleaning my fishing gear.

Bodyguard without laser, underwood extreme penetrator, carried in a Desantis IWB holster. No problems so far almost every weekend on the beach in St. Augustine.

SS slide helps but clean with warm water, compressed air and generous CLP. Eezox protection is good also.

I've been on a pretty involved cut this summer involving, among other things, about 12 miles a day of walking. That's in the Oklahoma summer so you'd better believe I was sweating like a mofuh. I carried my stainless LCP every step of the way giving it no more than a quick run across my shorts to half-assedly dry it before stowing it for the day. It looks fine.

I don't carry at the beach.  Keeps you out of the water or else you leave your pistol somewhere on the beach to get stolen.

Call me a Maverick, but I've never considered "Prohibited by Law" to be a valid reason for not carrying. If the "Law" doesn't care if you live or die, then the prudent person will make that decision for himself and his loved ones alone. Even if the worst happens, at least it is survivable.

I operate while swimming.

Also my beach gun is my 1911, same as everywhere else. Never had a rust problem, even after multiple days camping on the beach.

Glock 42 in a trigger guard lanyard setup from Tap Rack Holsters.
I have run, routinely dive and swim with this setup. End of the session and I wash with warm water and blow dry with compressed air.

I was in Ponce Inlet for 8 days during the 4th. I carried a 9mm Shield from day light till dark, rode 6 miles on bikes every morning, and went paddle boarding. The pistol was a perfect fit for all of my activities...

And no rust at all. Wiped it down every evening with an oily rag and it was good to go....

ETA I carried it in a Cooks IWB kydex

I agree. But that's another topic. After all there's s bunch of folks here that only carry occasionally. Once we get the carrying everwhere its legal, then we can move on to even where prohibited but risk of detection is low.

one nice/trashy thing about daytona is you can have your car in the sand. could always lock it in there if swimming or surfing, then carry it for just general whatever. My thought was more walks and hanging out on the beach after dark. No lights are allowed and it gets pretty damn dark late at night. might need to add a good flashlight to the rotation, too.

It was a  gen 3. And actually I think it was my 23, not my 19. Either way it wasn't a huge big deal but did pit the barrel a little bit but was mostly cosmetic on the slide. I cleaned it off then took it to robar and had it NP3'd shortly thereafter.

Was on a new boat once and one of their crew members had a G19 that he would take diving with him as a last resort to shark attack.  At the end of each day he would soak it in fresh water  field strip , dry, reassemble. Then put it in a plastic case and spray it with Corrosion -X.  I look at it once and didn't see any rust.

Do you guys swim with your carry piece in your trunks?

Anyone here ever had a situation where they had to draw down while swimming?

Besides having kadafis female body guards attempt a beach landing...what other scenerios should I be tactically preparing for?
