My dad loved old clocks and had several from my great grand parents.  My mom gave me one a couple of hours ago.  New Haven Clock Company and has a medicine bottle with a hole drilled in the cap with some thick oil.  Fairly crude carvings on it, so it's probably not worth much.  It has two half moons at the top.  Any info for taking care of it?

No idea.

My grandfather had an old, and I mean very old cuckoo clock that was his grandmothers. She was German and brought it with her here. It ended up in the garbage. Mind you, he was born in 1922.

He also had her bible. Written in German. Theres a date hand written in the cover,1733. My uncle has it now. It's barely staying together and it's wrapped up and never opened any more since the pages just disintegrate. My grandfather said it has been in her family for a long time.

Shame the old clock couldn't be saved.  Fortunately this one still works, chimes and seems to keep time so far.

You need a thin oil and not thick.

We have Emperor clocks in our family. If the oil is too thick it will mess up the gears. Cleaning the clock of crappy build up is not for people who dont know what they are doing. Do not use any spray lubs in the clock. It the movement is gunk up bring it to someone who knows what they are doing.
We have a few guys who repair clocks here in NH. One does house calls.

Get this oil.

I'm not a clock expert and can't help, but I do have a clock story....

Back before I was born my dad was in the Air Force and while in Germany he bought his mom (my grandmother) a Schatz 400 day anniversary clock.
It sat on the mantle at my grandma's house until as a kid I broke it by fiddling with it back in 1965 - and then it went into a box and into storage somewhere.
When my grandparents passed, the clock still in the box ended up with my parents, when my parents passed away the clock still in the box ended up with my brother.
Last year my brother found the clock in the box and asked me if I wanted it - I said yes.
So it arrived from MN to AZ and I put it on my fireplace mantle as an heirloom display piece.
But it haunted me that 51 years ago I broke that clock.
So I went online and read everything I could about repairing 400 day anniversary clocks, I ordered the common repair parts and went at it.
It took me about a month of tinkering but last October I got the clock running again - and I smiled.
I wound it last October and now even as I am looking at it - it's running like a champ and I'm hoping it will make it on a single wind to this October!
