Try "Not Mentioned in Despatches" by Spencer FitzGibbon. He'll change your mind. I'll give the man an A for courage and a D for tactics. Dont feel that strongly about it, though. Lets be positive. Seen this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tpg6h16k8eU everybody wants to bitch about H, but he didn't choose that dumb ass attack. And there was a lot of motivation to deflect the stupidity of ordering 2 para into that attack in the first place. Blame H for a politically motivated attack against a worthless target? Convenient. |

I know. But ultimately his leading from the front when his unit bogged down in the attack got it done. Not everyone gets the plan right. But even fewer can unfuck in those circumstances. everybody wants to bitch about H, but he didn't choose that dumb ass attack. And there was a lot of motivation to deflect the stupidity of ordering 2 para into that attack in the first place. Blame H for a politically motivated attack against a worthless target? Convenient. His personal attack solved nothing but allowed the XO, Keeble, to do what the subordinates were telling him to do in the first place. Bring up the support by fire heavy weapons company and flank the position rather then push the lead company in a frontal assault. If you read the other reference you'd be convinced; choose not to and theres no point in discussing it. |
