I'd really like to track down that Gewehr Sporter or whatever it was that Bale killed Pretty Boy Floyd with in the beginning of the movie.
The damned rifle with the set-trigger. You ask 20 people what it is...you get like 20 different answers.

Wonder how expensive that bitch is? Yeah, yeah...it's surplus crap, I know. But I liked it just for that scene in the movie.

It looks to me like a sporterized Mannlicher Schoenaur. I have one in 30.06, the butter knife bolt and double set triggers make me think that's what it is.

I wouldn't say surplus. Looking at it I see claw mounts for a scope and what looks like a square-bridge action. The bolt shroud and safety look like M98. Lets go with a commercial Mauser factory sporter of the kind a sophisticated gentleman like Purvis would have.

It was entertaining, but how many people believe Baby Face died at little Bohemia?

I understand it wasn't meant to be a documentary and writers need to take some liberties to make a sellable script, just one of my peeves.

I see what you are saying about the Mannlicher Schoenaur, but according to imfdb this was the rifle used.
