Looking for a place to shoot outdoors. Preferably a place with bays where you can do what you want in; drawing from the holster, maybe setting up some targets and running something similar to USPSA or IDPA.

Someone at work told me about a place called The Cove in Gore, VA. None of my shooting buddies have ever heard about it.

Another option is Peacemakers in WV.

And yet another has mentioned Area 82. It requires an annual membership, $300 I believe. Not sure if there is a waiting list.

And I know about the Quantico Shooting Range/Club. Not interested based on what I have heard about it.

other than Quantico, none of those are really in NoVA, which is pretty much devoid of outdoor ranges.
The Cove is a bit of a hike, and it can be a bit rough reaching the range if your vehicle doesn't have decent ground clearance

Isaac Walton League in Stafford or Centerville would be about the next closest I know of, membership required.

Don't know much about the club, but I did shoot there once when they first started monthly high power service rifle events.  Open to anyone.

This is about the only place you can shoot as free as you want, no Range Führers.  99% of what I've heard has been positive, actually REALLY positive, but someone did have a bad experience with some toofless trailer trash who kept shooting at their targets and wouldn't clear so people could go downrange and pull their targets.

I don't know anything about Northern VA, but this sounds like something for the HTF.

Only thing I know of is Fairfax rod and gun. Very nice place to shoot, but it's private with a capped member limit and a very long waiting list to get in. They do have many events that the general public can attend though. My dad is a member and I go there maybe once every year or two with him.
