Rexing V1 in both my vehicles.
Low-profile, and since I can mount them in front of my rear-view mirror on the passenger side, they don't block my view through the windshield at all.

Ive currently got them wired to lighter ports for power.  Need to hardwire them.

I have the BlackVue DR650S-2CH, it's an ok unit. The wifi software is buggy but other than that, I like it. It's a 2 camera system with wifi, gps, parking mode and decent quality video. Also it's fairly stealthy, you can barely see it.

walmart christmas special but its HD, so it matches the bike..........I need to modify the mounting as it accentuates the vibrations and is practically useless unless I am at idle or put a finger on it to stabilize it.  I hope its never needed, I just have it "in case" its hard to argue with video in case of an accident.

Rexing V1 as well. I like it for its small form factor and low price. I have it hardwired with a kit from thedashcamstore.com.

Why doesn't she want one? It's a huge benefit to have with respect to accidents. I think they should come standard in new vehicles.

This is the new one

Have the older model, used it for a couple years so far without a hitch. Techmoan has lots of videos, but in the end you just make up your mind and go for whatever you think is what will work.

On my Canyon I have the power coming from the mirror using a cord from Invisicord. Camera and mount are behind the rear view mirror and I have to lean over to even see the camera. I doubt many people even notice it's there.

"They should come standard"

An idea so good it should be mandatory.

PS:  And from California too.

my wife doesn't want one because she knows I would use all the bump/impact clips to highlight when she hits the curb during normal driving.

I have DOD LS300W and LS430W hardwired in my vehicles; they're a few years old now and are quite reliable with decent quality audio and video.

I found them originally on the dashcam review site somebody already posted above - at the time they were leaders.

if you have a dome light you likely have 12v constant up there, easy enough to tap into for a cheapy USB power supply to run the camera.

Is there any truth to being able to sell the footage to insurance companies? I've heard figures of $200-500 from other camera users depending on the severity of the accident and what you captured.

99.999999999999999% you dont NEED the HD quailty 4k resolution

you need to prove they  passed the red light/stop sign / lane change /  not you.

its a security  cam not a movie production.

one time i caught a hit and run
frankly,  i wasn't about to  give chase ..
so i  just  read the plates outloud so the cam mic would capture it.
didnt even  capture the accident on camera because it was beside me not in front  so even the best  resolution camera would of missed it.

I'm not sure why they haven't made a dual camera dashcam, with both lenses pointing the same direction but one is wide angle and the other is a zoom lens that cover the area about 2 vehicles wide 50' ahead.  The wide angle is needed for context but most of the action will happen immediately in front of you.  The current cameras appear too far away due to the wide angle lenses they use.

When one has to call the police it's rather important that you get their plate number to prove it was them. Not every situation involves an accident.

Blackbox G1W.

I think I paid around 50 bucks for it a couple of years ago.

Learned the hard way to format the SD card once a month.
No issues since then.

Had a Genius unit before that and it wouldn't spit out the SD card and wound up ruining it trying to get it out.

Both cams have great video quality and field of view.
The Genius had a better quality night picture though.

G1W-CB  Same as the G1W but uses a capacitor instead of a battery and has a black bezel on it instead of silver to make it a little bit less noticeable.  It is still very obvious though.  People have started spray painting them matte black to help conceal them a bit more.

It is still on sale for $23.99 right now.  Otherwise it closer to $50.  http://www.gearbest.com/car-dvr/pp_196898.html?wid=44

ETA: it is showing as out of stock in the US warehouse.  It was still in stock earlier today.  Now it is $28.99 from their China warehouse.  http://www.gearbest.com/car-dvr/pp_196898.html?wid=21

I would keep watching the US price though.  They have been running it at $23.99 off and on for months now.

Does the zoom feature zoom the recorded video or just the display?  I have never tried it and then looked at that footage.

See my post above about getting the G1W-CB for $23.99 right now.

I used to use a G1W.  Not a bad camera - cheap, 1080p, decent night videos, and the screen on the back was handy.  OTOH it was bigger than I liked and stuck out when you looked at the car from the outside.  No one ever stole it, fortunately.

When I bought a new car recently I upgraded (slightly) to an A119, which is just a higher res version of the A118/B40 series of wedge-style dashcams.  It's smaller and much lower profile than the G1W.  Uses the same chipset and lens as the G1W series, so internally it's pretty much the same camera.  The A119 is 1440p though.

Generally I have found that the cheap cameras have worked just as well as the more expensive ones for what I need them for.  Particularly if you are just getting into it, I'd recommend a cheap one to start with.

Read that big thread others have linked to in the safe forum.  It's a good thread.
