I have the BlackVue DR650S-2CH, it's an ok unit. The wifi software is buggy but other than that, I like it. It's a 2 camera system with wifi, gps, parking mode and decent quality video. Also it's fairly stealthy, you can barely see it.

| walmart christmas special but its HD, so it matches the bike..........I need to modify the mounting as it accentuates the vibrations and is practically useless unless I am at idle or put a finger on it to stabilize it. I hope its never needed, I just have it "in case" its hard to argue with video in case of an accident. |

This is the new one
Have the older model, used it for a couple years so far without a hitch. Techmoan has lots of videos, but in the end you just make up your mind and go for whatever you think is what will work. On my Canyon I have the power coming from the mirror using a cord from Invisicord. Camera and mount are behind the rear view mirror and I have to lean over to even see the camera. I doubt many people even notice it's there. http://invisicord.com/osc2/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=58 |

Why doesn't she want one? It's a huge benefit to have with respect to accidents. I think they should come standard in new vehicles. Quoted:

PS: And from California too. |

Personally the biggest problem I have had with dash cams is being able to capture license plates without being right on someone's ass. you need to prove they passed the red light/stop sign / lane change / not you. its a security cam not a movie production. one time i caught a hit and run frankly, i wasn't about to give chase .. so i just read the plates outloud so the cam mic would capture it. didnt even capture the accident on camera because it was beside me not in front so even the best resolution camera would of missed it. |

Blackbox G1W.
I think I paid around 50 bucks for it a couple of years ago. Learned the hard way to format the SD card once a month. No issues since then. Had a Genius unit before that and it wouldn't spit out the SD card and wound up ruining it trying to get it out. Both cams have great video quality and field of view. The Genius had a better quality night picture though. |

2) What camera are you using? It is still on sale for $23.99 right now. Otherwise it closer to $50. http://www.gearbest.com/car-dvr/pp_196898.html?wid=44 ETA: it is showing as out of stock in the US warehouse. It was still in stock earlier today. Now it is $28.99 from their China warehouse. http://www.gearbest.com/car-dvr/pp_196898.html?wid=21 I would keep watching the US price though. They have been running it at $23.99 off and on for months now. |

G1W. I had that one. Worked great...until I dropped it. The picture quality is good and I liked the zoom feature. I may just buy another one and be done with it. See my post above about getting the G1W-CB for $23.99 right now. |

G1W-CB Same as the G1W but uses a capacitor instead of a battery and has a black bezel on it instead of silver to make it a little bit less noticeable. It is still very obvious though. People have started spray painting them matte black to help conceal them a bit more. It is still on sale for $23.99 right now. Otherwise it closer to $50. http://www.gearbest.com/car-dvr/pp_196898.html?wid=44 |

I used to use a G1W. Not a bad camera - cheap, 1080p, decent night videos, and the screen on the back was handy. OTOH it was bigger than I liked and stuck out when you looked at the car from the outside. No one ever stole it, fortunately.
When I bought a new car recently I upgraded (slightly) to an A119, which is just a higher res version of the A118/B40 series of wedge-style dashcams. It's smaller and much lower profile than the G1W. Uses the same chipset and lens as the G1W series, so internally it's pretty much the same camera. The A119 is 1440p though. Generally I have found that the cheap cameras have worked just as well as the more expensive ones for what I need them for. Particularly if you are just getting into it, I'd recommend a cheap one to start with. Read that big thread others have linked to in the safe forum. It's a good thread. |
