What is the significance of the 4th of July?

Day they sent the King's troops out of here...Nope Says I, that was 3rd of Sept., 1783
Shot heard around the World? I think not. That was on 19th of April, 1775
Paul Revere's rode around shouting the Brits are Comin'. That shit never happened.
Signing of the " Deceleration of Independence". Nope, that was the 2nd of July, 1776

Maybe it was the Day the founding Fathers (aka Terrorist) realized what they had done, got drunk, ate hotdogs, shot off fireworks, watched baseball, and rode around in a boat on the Lake.

Congress officially adopted the Declaration of Independence on July 4th.

ETA: They didn't sign the document on the 2nd of July.... The signing didn't happen for at least a month after and it was intermittent as members would come/go to get it signed.

Wrong OP.

Pretty sure that the signing of the Declaration of Independence was not done on a single day. Happened over a few days as the signers snuck in and out of the city to avoid the British troops.

Don't matter who did what when,  Independence Day is the day we celebrate our forefathers telling a tyrant to go pack fucking sand!

And henceforth you will refer to it as Independence Day- Not July 4th.

While the notion is true, the Continental Congress officially adopted the Declaration of Independence on July 4th. That is a very real reason why the date was chosen.

Nobody knows exactly what day any of that great stuff happened, which is why we shoot fireworks for the whole month before and after the fourth.
It could have been any day, gotta party on all of them just in case.

Yes, Politics is still the same, took them many weeks to agree on the wording of the draft of the FU King George letter, which they promptly had many copies printed up and posted to billboards far and wide.... Seems familiar.

Lee's Resolution was voted on 2 July.
The next couple days were spent debating edits to Jeffersons DoI and adopted on the Fourth as a sorta press release about why they voted for Lee's Resolution.

There was nothing signed until much later.

And independence still required much blood to secure it.
